The takeover was made official in a letter to the Indian Stock Exchange on 28 July.

GMR Airports Limited (GMR Airports) has assumed full operation of the duty free business at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) following a letter released to the National Stock Exchange of India on August 21, 2024.

GMR Airports emerged as the bidder selected to develop, operate, manage and maintain duty free operations, and replaces the consortium which previously handled operations, consisting of Delhi International Airport Limited and Yalorvin Limited (an ARI subsidiary), and GMR Airports.

According to a LinkedIn posting made from the account of Mohammad Askari, General Manager at GMR Airports, the business is hoping to elevate the shopping experience at Delhi Airport, as this move is designed to allow GMR to better integrate retail into its passenger experience strategy.

The post noted the takeover as a ‘major leap’ in GMR Airport’s retail transformation.

TRBusiness has reached out to GMR Airports and Delhi Duty Free for further comment, and will update this story accordingly.
