Mobile shopping cart drives airport gate sales for Delhi Duty Free Services

By Luke Barras-hill |

A mobile shopping cart has arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to create a more convenient duty free experience while boosting sales for Delhi Duty Free Services (DDFS).

The retail operator, the joint venture of Delhi International Airport Limited, Aer Rianta International Subsidiary Yalorvin and GMR Airports, claims it is the first retailer on the subcontinent to introduce the service.

Designed to convert time-strapped passengers at the gates unable to browse the main duty free stores, the shopping cart includes liquor, P&C, confectionery and tobacco.

DDFS says a shop & collect service will also be available soon.

“We want to make last-minute shopping easier for passengers before boarding,” said DDFS in a statement. “Delhi Duty Free developed this unique plane cart in partnership with Maini Group, a company that was the first in India to design and manufacture eco-friendly electric vehicles.

The mobile cart will carry core duty free products such as alcohol, P&C, confectionery and tobacco.

“Now, travellers can find the brand or product of their choice at the airport gates of their choice. The mobile cart is the ideal way to reach more passengers at large airports like Delhi International Airport.”
