Mumbai DF to galvanise sales with airport shopping festival
By Charlotte Turner |
In May and June Mumbai Duty Free will be staging its summer shopping festival – which will entail various summer sale activities – making shopping at Mumbai Duty Free ‘technically free’, says the company.
According to the retailer (which is operated by Flemingo Travel Retail Ltd), the year old campaign ‘Mumbai Duty Free is now Free’ has been one of the most successful in the company’s history.
MDF’s flagship store at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Terminal 2 is just one of 17 at the airport in Mumbai, including four core duty free stores, one Indian gourmet store and 12 speciality stores with a combined footprint of 6,627sq m.
The shopping festival will offer deals on duty free products, pre-order discounts, cash-back, discount vouchers from partner brands and gift cards.
The various ‘deals’ and promotions are applicable across the stores at both departure and arrival areas and cover products in spirits, fragrances, cosmetics, health & wellness, confectionery, gourmet foods, fashion & accessories.
UNRESTRICTED GIFT VOUCHER
“What makes this festival special is the unrestricted gift voucher of INR 300 to all travellers passing through Mumbai International departure terminal,” says MDF.

The shopping festival will offer deals on duty free products, pre-order discounts, cash-back, discount vouchers from partner brands and gift cards.
“The no conditional Rs.300 gift voucher is simply to remind the customer that their holiday trip starts with shopping at MDF with no strings attached.”
Travellers can collect this gift voucher from MDF summer festival booths set up before immigration counters for use at the departure store for their ‘take-away’ purchase.
Further more, subsequent to shopping above the required amount, customers will get a ‘Mumbai Duty Free Is Now Free’ envelope containing discount vouchers, redeemable coupons and complementary experiences from partner brands including: Make My Trip, Vodafone, Myntra, Urban Ladder and Mumbai’s luxury mall, Palladium.
CITIBANK PARTNERSHIP
In addition, customers will get 15% cash back when using their Citibank cards. This year, the maximum cash back amount has also increased from INR 1500 to 2000 per transaction for departure and arrival stores.
“We understand that our customers seek the best value for their money spent in stores and so we ensure to get the best deals and promotions from our vendor brands and external partners,” says Manishi Sanwal, CEO, Mumbai Duty Free (Flemingo Travel Retail Ltd).

The festival is clearly signposted both in the departure and arrival areas of the airport.
“Coupled with our exclusive gift cards, we are sure that the customer shopping at Mumbai Duty Free would be delightful and memorable.
“We greatly value the opinion of all of our passengers, and we will continue to push the boundaries and to set new standards for the industry to continue to ensure that Mumbai Duty Free is an experience worth travelling for.”
