Mumbai RFP this month

By Doug Newhouse |

Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) expects to finalise the composition of its duty free request for proposals by the end of this month, according to Belinda Ohanoglu, General Manager Commercial, Mumbai International Airport.

Responding to a question on the timing from The Business at last week’s Trinity Forum in Bangkok, she said that the new terminal is scheduled to open in 2012 with 20,000sq m allocated to retail, while the domestic terminal will offer 6,000sq m (including F&B).

Ohanoglu said that minimum guarantees will not be the only focus within this new contract, but will play a support function, with several other criteria to be included for interested bidders.

The current incumbent duty free retailer at MIAL is DFS Group working in a joint venture with Flemingo International. Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (MIAL) is also a joint venture owned by the GVK-led consortium (74%) and Airports Authority of India (26%). It was formed in March 2006 to manage and develop the airport.
