Orient Lanka expands in Kathmandu

Alpha Orient Lanka Ltd has announced plans to open a new departure shop in Nepal?s Kathmandu International Airport in mid-June under a joint venture sole supply management agreement with Greenline International Pvt Ltd of Nepal.
Greenline International Pvt Ltd of Nepal was only recently awarded a new airport tax free store license by the Ministry of Finance and it is shortly to begin operating its new store in a joint venture with Alpha Airports' owned Orient Lanka. The latter has signed a new supply management agreement with Greenline covering liquor, tobacco, confectionery, cosmetics and perfumes.
?The new shop will have a better location than our existing departure shop with better visibility,’ said Orient Lanka Special Projects Manager Inga Moghilco, adding that the new store will be approximately the same size and shape of its existing shop. Liquor items to be stocked will include whisky, gin, rum, vodka, tequila, brandy, liqueurs, wine, Champagne, vermouth and beer. Cigarette brands will be those produced by BAT, Japan Tobacco International and Philip Morris.
?Confectionery and perfumes will be introduced at a later stage. Currently we are waiting for these items to be approved by the Ministry of Finance,? said Moghilco. ?Our old and new shops will not differ much in terms of products stocked. However, we will be applying certain product strategies in order not to duplicate the shop product ranges. We expect whisky and wine will be the most popular items in the new Greenline shop.?
Orient Lanka Ltd already has a joint venture sole supply management agreement for liquor, tobacco, confectionery, perfumes and cosmetics with Universal Supply Agency Ltd of Nepal, which holds a 10-year renewable license to operate a departure and an arrival shop at Kathmandu International Airport and a downtown shop in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu.
