Estée Lauder launches its first adult anti-blemish treatments

By Charlotte Turner |

In its first range of skincare products, which exclusively targets adult blemishes and breakouts, Estée Lauder is launching the Clear Difference line including a Serum, a Treatment and a BB Creme.

Estée Lauder says that Clear Difference is a ‘highly-effective, rapid-acting’ system, which aims to target, treat and reduce the look of blemishes, effectively yet gently. “Taking control of skin, these high-performance, anti-blemish innovations also help prevent new blemishes from forming,” says Lauder.

“Blemishes aren’t just for teenagers – preventing breakouts is a top concern for women today,” says Dr Nadine Pernodet, Vice President, Basic Science Research – R&D, The Estée Lauder Companies.

At the launch of the new product range in London, Pernodet talked of the real psychological side affects that breakouts and blemishes have on adults, and in particular women. This, in turn, can cause stress for the individual, a hormonal imbalance and even greater sebum production – an excess of which can lead to the emergence of spots.

A LAUDER FIRST

“We’ve never had any treatment against blemishes or breakouts before,” said Pernodet. “We decided to create these products after asking women, around the world, what their main skin concerns were.”

Pernodet says she was surprised that blemishes and breakouts were the number two concern – following anti-ageing for Caucasians and pigmentation for Asian consumers – affecting every ethnicity and every age.

According to the data collected by ELC, more than 50% of women or men between the age of 25 and 34 are suffering from adult blemishes; many of these subjects say they had no previous history of serious acne. According to skincare experts, as we mature the occurrence of blemishes generally decrease as sebum production slows down.

“What’s striking about our data is that there doesn’t seem to be much difference between men and women, even though we know they have different hormones,” says Pernodet. This points to the conclusion that adult blemishes are not only related to hormonal fluctuations, but there are many other causes.

ILL-EFFECTS OF LIFESTYLE

Stress, lack of sleep as well as improper cleansing, improper product use on the skin, hormonal fluctuations, and environmental assaults – such as pollution – facilitate the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.

The new range consists of the following: Clear Difference Advanced Blemish Serum that can be used every day; Clear Difference Targeted Blemish Treatment, which targets the blemishes that have already appeared on the skin’s surface and Clear Difference Complexion Perfecting BB Creme that not only conceals blemishes, but works on treating them at the same time.

The new Clear Difference range will be available at Estée Lauder Travel Retail counters worldwide from March 2014.
