NEW LISBON PLAN

The Portuguese Government has announced a plan to build a new E3bn ($3.5bn) international airport for the city of Lisbon, although it will be located around 50 kilometres north at Ota. The government says that a public tender will be held to construct the new facility and it hopes that work will commence by 2010, with the airport open for business by 2017.

LEEDS BRADFORD SHOWS AMBITIONS
The UK regional airport of Leeds Bradford has announced its master plan for future development spanning the period 2005 to 2016. This comes alongside a passenger forecast predicting growth from its present annual level of 2.6m passengers to 4.7m by 2016, and possibly as many as 7m by 2030. Its draft master plan includes proposals for new terminal facilities and a runway extension.

ABU DHABI HONOURED BY ICAO
According to the UAE – Emirates News Agency, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has chosen Abu Dhabi International Airport to implement its new civil aviation safety inspection programme. It says that the decision to choose Abu Dhabi is testimony to the success of the integrated systems policy which has been implemented under the directives of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Civil Aviation Department.
