Oneworld Alliance CEO Nathaniel Pieper

Nathaniel Pieper has been appointed CEO at airline group Oneworld Alliance.

Global airline group Oneworld Alliance has named Nathaniel Pieper its new CEO. The industry veteran joins from Alaska Airlines where he served as Senior Vice President of Fleet, Finance and Alliances.

Pieper will take up the role from 1 April 2024, with key focuses including strengthening the Alliance and driving customer experience globally.

He will report to Oneworld Alliance’s governing board, which comprises the 13 member airline CEOs. Pieper joins the Alliance as it celebrates its 25th year and succeeds Rob Gurney, who served the business for six years.

In his current role at Alaska Airlines, Pieper paved the way for the airline to join Oneworld. He also oversaw US$9 billion-worth of aircraft transactions, and secured $5bn in liquidity to see the airline through the pandemic.

Before joining Alaska, Pieper held executive-level roles at Delta and Northwest, focusing on strategic, alliance and financial functions.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Duke University and a Business Administration in finance, strategy and transportation management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Nathaniel Pieper: The Oneworld future is ‘bright’

“We are excited to welcome Nat Pieper into the role of CEO at oneworld and look forward to the alliance continuing its journey of innovation and collaboration under his leadership,” said Robert Isom, American Airlines Chief Executive Officer and Oneworld Alliance Chairman.

“With more than 25 years of working in the industry, Nat has the experience to enhance Oneworld’s position as the premier airline alliance, modernising travel for millions of customers and Oneworld frequent flyers.”

Pieper added: “In my airline career, I have admired from afar and now experienced first-hand the influence and benefits the Oneworld Alliance brings to an airline and its customers.

“I am thrilled to join the Oneworld family and look forward to working with all of the best-in-class carriers that are part of our alliance.

“The future of the Oneworld alliance is bright and I am ready to continue to develop the alliance into its next 25 years.”
