Balvenie launches three new cask expressions; two exclusive to DF&TR

Speyside distillery The Balvenie has unveiled a trio of cask finished whiskies, two of which will be available exclusively in global travel retail from 1 April.

Travel retail shoppers will be able to lay their hands on the Madeira Cask 15 Year Old (ABV 43%) and the Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask 18 Year Old (ABV 48.7%), both pictured right.

The expressions will be listed with ‘all key retailers’ and enjoy activations at major airports including Incheon International Airport, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and in Jeju and Hainan, confirms brand owner William Grant & Sons.

In Europe, a number of HPPs have been agreed with Gebr. Heinemann at airports including Amsterdam Schiphol, Frankfurt, Berlin, Budapest, Copenhagen, Vienna and Munich.

The three whiskies in the appropriately named ‘Cask Finishes’ range are described as a ‘deep dive into flavour’ across the wine-making regions of Europe.

“We’re delighted to be launching The Balvenie Cask Finishes Range with two exclusive editions for global travel retail,” commented Lindsay Hitzeroth, WG&S Head of Customer Marketing, GTR.

“The channel has always been about discovery, offering consumers the opportunity to find something new and different, yet with the confidence of brand knowledge and integrity.

“As travel now begins to show real recovery in the aftermath of Covid, we will continue to inspire and engage consumers with The Balvenie 15yo Madeira Cask and 18yo Pedro Ximénez Cask, both delivering the quality of liquid and iconic appeal searched for by luxury shoppers.”

Separately, The Balvenie French Oak Cask Aged 16 Years (ABV 47.6%) joins the domestic offer only.

The domestic Cask Finishes range, not available in DF&TR, now includes: Doublewood 12 Year Old, Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old, French Oak 16 Year Old, and Portwood 21 Year Old.
