Travel accessories company Cabeau believes DF&TR is the ‘perfect fit’ for its new Track & Shield smart lock, which was officially launched last weekend (22-24 March) in Los Angeles.

TRBusiness joined members of the trade media and Cabeau business partners for a cruise on the Just Dreamin’ yacht, where the Los Angeles-based company’s landmark launch took place.

During the launch event, Cabeau also introduced various new appointments. These included Alex Vorissis, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer, Paola Fernandez Cintora, Vice President Global Sales and Susannah Kim, Vice President of Global Marketing.

In addition, the company revealed new packaging for its S3 travel pillow and a new display.

The weekend of celebrations included a rooftop cocktail party at the Erwin Hotel in Venice Beach and a trip to The Magic Castle, a private members club for magicians and magic enthusiasts.

GPS LOCK TECHNOLOGY

Track & Shield was created with patented and patent-pending GPS lock technology so consumers and their belongings will never be at risk.

It is believed to be the only device that provides real-time global tracking of anyone or anything. Track & Shield also has the ability to send text messages almost anywhere. Geo and time stamps can also be sent each time it is opened.

Narrowband technology has been implemented which dramatically extends texting abilities compared to cellphones. One single charge can also provide battery life for up to four months.

The price of the device is $199 with a service fee of $50 per year or $6.99 per month. This enables use of all functions through an Apple app or Android smartphone app.

The device is TSA compliant and will be able to travel in the baggage hold once approved by government agencies.

David Sternlight, CEO and Founder, Cabeau told TRBusiness: “Travel retail will obviously be a huge focus. We see that perfect fit as a GPS luggage lock with accountability for any of the baggage handlers.

“It is TSA compliant and will be able to travel in the baggage hold once approved by government agencies.”

Roll-out in GTR is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2019 and will follow a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign which launches in mid-April.

“The way we think right now is only global. We don’t discriminate or have a particular focus on one market or another.”

Reflecting on the origins of the Track & Shield product, Sternlight recalls how it started out as a GPS luggage lock and turned into something ‘bigger and greater.’

He added: “There have been years in the company’s history when we were asked to create certain products, which were not necessarily the core of what we initially started to do. This was to develop things based on what people were looking for.

“Track & Shield represents a year-and-a-half of really diving into what was actually just an idea of being able to track your luggage.”

This was the impetus behind the product, emphasised Sternlight: “On some occasions, I arrived at destinations to find items had been removed from my luggage.

“I always thought it was terrible and that there was no accountability. Many airlines refused to believe items were stolen.”

LIFE SAVER

Sternlight is convinced Track & Shield ‘can and will’ save lives as it might need to be used at any given time. The extended text function, for example, might be needed in an emergency for vulnerable women travelling alone, senior citizens and people with special needs.

It can also be used when someone is physically injured or during a natural hazard when telephone networks are overwhelmed.

“For us, the goal is to make the world a better place. We want to focus on extreme innovation,” Sternlight remarked.

Aside from its travel adapters, Cabeau had not previously incorporated electronics or intricate technology into any of its products. The introduction of Track & Shield is, therefore, a game-changer and represents a new era for the company.

Sternlight commented: “We do not want to come out with products which others deliver. Our goal and mission is to really make a difference and have things which are unique and exclusive to us.”
