Cabin-sized bag specialist CabinZero has appointed the experienced Denz van Der List as its new Sales Director for Global Travel Retail, effective today (1 September 2019).
Van der List, who previously held the role of International Sales Director for Travel Retail for travel products firm Cabeau, will attend the upcoming TFWA World Exhibition and Conference in Cannes (Green Village H56) and offer his input on CabinZero’s newest range, which was unveiled at TFWA Singapore earlier this year.
The company exhibited for the first time at Cannes in 2018.
Following confirmation of two new airline listings for its products and a collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the appointment of Van der List is another positive development for the company following its official launch in 2012.
BUILDING BLOCKS FOR THE FUTURE
The idea for the ‘adventure-proof backpack’ was formed by Neil Varden, Founder and CEO while travelling in India and experiencing many broken bags and cabin restrictions.
Drawing on his vast experience in duty free/duty paid retail, inflight retail, cruises, hotels and international distribution, Van der List will look to build on the success of the range of CabinZero bags currently available.
These are meticulously designed with travel in mind and include must-have features such as: all-weather protection, hide-away straps, trolley slip, thicker padding on the back and straps, sternum straps, bottle/umbrella pockets and laptop compartments.
Van der List commented: “I am thrilled to be appointed as the Sales Director for Global Travel Retail at CabinZero. Following the company from its introduction in Cannes, when I received one of its backpacks, I’ve been very excited by its growth.
“CabinZero travel retail exclusive products and its commitment to ongoing development and innovation throughout the product range gives me the enviable job of helping to develop the brand through the travel retail channel.”
He added: “CabinZero has affordable, fashionable and luxury travel items. Above all, they are items that people want to own and start to use as soon as they see them. I think the company is a perfect fit for travel retail and I’m greatly looking forward to the opportunities that lay ahead for us.”
THE FACE OF THE BRAND
Speaking separately to TRBusiness Van der List said the opportunity offered to him by Varden was extremely appealing. “Becoming the face of a fairly new brand in travel retail and developing the channel for the brand is extremely exciting.
“Funny enough, I have been traveling with the larger backpack we received at one of the Cannes events as a gift-bag last year. While travelling, it has shown great endurance and good quality which are key unique selling points when it comes to a product. Also, the functionalities of the bag make it one to use with pleasure.”
In the short-term, Van der List will focus on what the relatively young brand has done so far. “Longer term, the aim is to strengthen the partnerships with the retailers and really grow this brand in travel retail and perhaps a little bit beyond.”
He added: “I am very excited to be actively involved and developing a fashionable brand internationally.”
Moving forward, he will look to draw on his experiences from previous positions and utilise knowledge gained. “I am very much looking forward to learning more and more. Although it is a travel accessory, CabinZero is definitely a fashion accessory and I am very excited to move into this channel of travel retail.”
