Travel-inspired bag specialist CabinZero is to unveil a new bag collection at the TFWA Asia-Pacific Conference & Exhibition in Singapore.

The new limited-edition Classic Remix Collection has been made in collaboration with London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A). It combines all-weather, durable bags with various patterns.

The range of six backpacks and hip bags features a range of sizes: 28 litre, 36 litre and 44 litre in Classic; 2 litre Classic Hip; and the 11 litre and 30 litre in ADV Dry.

Four new design styles (Paisley, Night Floral, Azar and Spitalfields) will be introduced into travel retail and domestic markets. These are inspired by prints drawn from the museum’s archives, including Azar which is a travel retail exclusive.

Inspired by the work of textile designer George Haité (1825-71), the Paisley design has been reimagined with linen white, rich red, deep blue and jade green on a burgundy background.

Night floral combines a soft black background with tones of olive, khaki green and highlights of chartreuse and soft pink. The design takes inspiration from an album of textiles by William Kilburn (1745-1818) in the V&A collection.

The travel retail exclusive Azar design is inspired by an Iranian textile, originally woven in Iran in the mid-19th century.

Finally, the Spitalfields hand-painted floral watercolour print was inspired by the designs of Huguenot silk weaver, James Leman (1688-1745), in the V&A collection.

Features of the individual bags in CabinZero’s new V&A collection vary depending on their size. Highlights, however, include all-weather protection, hide-away straps, trolley slip, thicker padding on the back and straps, sternum straps, bottle/umbrella pockets and laptop compartments

In addition to the new V&A collection, CabinZero will showcase prototypes of its new free-standing display units in Singapore.

Neil Varden, Founder and CEO, CabinZero said: “This ultra-cool collaboration with the V&A in London adds some beautiful archival prints to our collection and my favourite of those, the Azar, has been made a travel retail exclusive.

“We now have dedicated staff working on developing travel retail, not least in Asia Pacific and we expect huge growth in the channel over the course of the next two years.”

Lauren Sizeland, Head of Licensing & Business Development, V&A added: “We were delighted to work with CabinZero’s skilled design team as they explored inspiration from across our archives, reimagining and honing rich patterns, while demonstrating respect for the original designs.

“The range blends beautiful artwork with innovative materials, producing a clever and unique offering to the travel market.”

Meanwhile, the company has announced a number of new appointments to support the expansion of its travel retail business on the ground and in the air.

Dan Burman has been named Commercial Director of parent company TNG Europe Ltd, with a specific remit to build the sales and distribution network for CabinZero, including travel retail.

New CabinZero USA LLC General Manager, Adela Castaneda has been appointed to develop the Americas business domestically and in duty free.

British born, Berman has 20 years travel goods knowledge with brands including Pacsafe and Hedgren. He has worked in various capacities including Asia Pacific Sales Director and Head of Merchandise/Product & Marketing from bases in London, Los Angeles and Hong Kong.

He said: “When introduced to CabinZero, I was so excited by the brand’s potential and people. I think the team has done an amazing job getting it this far and now with many new personnel joining, all with different expertise, the brand is going to go from strength to strength.

“I am very much looking forward to my first major travel retail event at TFWA Asia-Pacific this month and meeting existing and potential customers for CabinZero.”

Ailing-Seah-Langeland-In addition, Ailing Seah-Langeland (left) of LL International AS has been appointed to develop the inflight business in all regions apart from the US. Seah-Langeland is based in Trondheim, Norway.

Varden commented: “Ailing is doing a fantastic job for us. We’re listed with Etihad for our Black Adv Dry 30 L waterproof/all weather backpack for its May-August 2019 programme and we’ve received confirmation for our 2L hip pack with Nokscoot and our Adv Dry 11L bag with Jetstar Asia.

“We’re also set to confirm other inflight and pre-order business with another key Asian airline.”

He added:  “We see Asia Pacific as a big growth opportunity for CabinZero both on the ground and inflight. Ailing has quickly proved that the potential is there for quality, lightweight luggage. Our backpacks fold up to a very compact, small size and they — plus the hip packs — are perfect for inflight.”

In further news, the company has opened a US subsidiary, CabinZero USA LLC, to develop the Americas business domestically and in duty free. Headed by President Andrew Hamilton with General Manager Adela Castaneda, the subsidiary expects to announce listings with a key travel retailer very soon.

Varden concluded: “Our goal is to expand our travel retail points of sale across the globe and, to that end, we’ll be rolling out new innovative free standing display units  designed to give us greater traction and allow us to be placed in stores of almost any size.

“We know the importance of attracting and engaging with travellers so the new units have been designed with a strong ‘wow’ factor. We’ll be launching them to the trade at TFWA Asia-Pacific in Singapore this month.”
