Chivas Brothers hits double

By Doug Newhouse |

Chivas Brothers is celebrating after a double triumph at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Awards. The Glenlivet 18 Year Old scooped the ’13 Years Old and Over’ accolade while Aberlour A’bunadh stormed the ’12 Years Old and Under’ class.

Now in its 12th year, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is a celebration of Scotland’s national drink, attended by whisky enthusiasts across the globe, many of whom are invited to judge the awards. These latest accolades follow the array of medals won by both brands at last year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition and International Spirits Competition.

Global Brand Director for Malts at Chivas Brothers, Neil Macdonald, commented: “To win two ‘best of the best’ awards at this esteemed awards ceremony is exceptionally flattering and really highlights the popularity of our malts with whisky lovers around the world. What is great about the Spirit of Speyside Festival Whisky Awards is that ‘real’ consumers decide the winners, and ultimately these are the people who are buying and enjoying our whiskies.”

The Glenlivet 18 Year Old, crafted in the remote Livet Valley since 1824, is described as ‘the perfect expression of age and elegance, balancing the archetypal ripe fruit notes of The Glenlivet with a drier, evocative oak influence.’

The leading single malt Scotch whisky in France, Aberlour is ‘a huge and powerful malt, matured exclusively in sherry casks and bottled at cask strength.’
