Coty and Tiffany & Co launch ‘sparkling floral’ fragrance
By Charlotte Turner |
World-famous diamond jeweller, Tiffany & Co has launched its first fragrance with beauty giant Coty following an initial agreement announcement in January 2016.
The truly iconic brand was founded in New York in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany, whose passion for diamonds led him to purchase ‘the Tiffany Diamond’; a rare and brilliant 128.54-carat yellow diamond, discovered in 1877.
This was followed by the acquisition of nearly a third of the French Crown Jewels in 1887, which later earned Tiffany the moniker ‘The King of Diamonds’.
After signing an agreement to produce perfumes with Tiffany & Co back in January of last year, Coty can now reveal that the ‘bold’ new scent, created by master perfumer Daniela Andrier of Givaudan is a ‘sparkling floral musk’.
“The scent opens with vibrant top notes of vert de mandarine,” says Coty. “At the heart, a precious iris flower is the hero ingredient.”
IMPORTANCE OF BEING IRIS
Apparently, Tiffany’s association with the iris dates back to the earliest sketches found in the Tiffany Archives and is ‘deeply entwined’ in the DNA of the house.
“It was an iris brooch set with demantoid garnet blossoms and Montana sapphires that earned Tiffany the grand prize at the Paris Exposition in 1900,” adds Coty.
Patchouli ‘wrapped in a blend of soothing musks’ can be detected at the base of the scent.
Naturally, the glass flacon of the Tiffany & Co. fragrance takes its inspiration from the house’s best-known diamond cuts.
“The elaborate faceting work at the base recalls the 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond—perhaps the world’s most rare yellow diamond, with 82 facets—while the pure geometric lines of the shoulders mirror the house’s Lucida-cut diamond engagement ring,” says Coty.
Like all of the jeweller’s creations, the fragrance is presented in the signature Tiffany Blue Box.
Tiffany’s Chief Artistic Officer Reed Krakoff and photographer Steven Meisel were selected to capture models Vittoria Ceretti, Julia Nobis, Achok Majak and Georgina Grenville for the advertising campaign.
