Diverse and inclusive speaker line-up announced for TR Sustainability Week

The full agenda and speaker line-up for the second annual Travel Retail Sustainability Week, which will take place from 19-22 April, can now be revealed.

The agenda, featured on the TR Sustainability website, travelretailsustainabilityweek.com, brings together a diverse group of speakers from all sectors of the industry and beyond, who will address a broad range of topics, all connected to sustainability and social responsibility.

As revealed earlier this month, this year’s highly anticipated event will kick off with a keynote session at 9am British Summer Time (UTC+1) on Tuesday 19 April, which as announced, features a powerful line up of senior industry executives. Read more about the keynote session here.

Following the opening session, Green Design: From The Perfect Store to The Purpose Store will bring together m1nd-set’s CEO Peter Mohn, ARI-Middle East’s Tracy Ross; Hugo Vanderschaegh from Altavia Travel Retail as well as Michael Ripfl, General Manager Global Brand & Travel Retail and Theresa Kirchweger, Sustainability Manager from umdasch The Store Makers.

The session will explore some of the initiatives being undertaken by industry stakeholders, to ensure the travel retail environment is tailored to consumers’ increasing sensitivity around sustainability. Following the initial insights on shopper attitudes regarding the importance of sustainability in shop design, the speakers will focus on how stores of today can be more environmentally friendly in the conception, design and build and how collaboration is already well underway to achieve these objectives. This session will take place at 11.30am on Tuesday 19 April .

Green Design: From The Perfect Store to The Purpose Store

PLANET AND PEOPLE

On Wednesday 20 April, two new themes, which are playing an ever-more important role in the industry and in TRBusiness’ sustainability agenda, will provide rich, interactive discussion across both sessions of the day. In the morning at 9am UK time (BST), Planet and people part 1: Health and wellbeing will discuss the growing trend and demand among shoppers for personal health and how suppliers in the travel retail sector are adapting, in particular in the beauty category.

The session will feature Marie Videau, General Manager for Research & Development at L’Occitane en Provence who will be joined by Laboratoire Puressentiel representatives Mathieu Vazart Global Travel Retail Manager and Christophe Fabre, Export Director; Clara Susset, COO at m1nd-set and Miriam Ciantar, Founder & Company Director at Baroque & Rose. The session will also feature a video interview with Carmen Tal, Co-founder of Moroccanoil.

People and the planet part 1: Health and Wellbeing

The second Planet and people session of the day, at 11.30am BST will focus on Diversity & Inclusion with Wendy Avis, Environment Manager at Vancouver International Airport, Nikki Harland, Chief Operating Officer, Paradies Lagardère, Orion Brown, Founder & CEO at Black Travel Box and Altavia Foundation Director, Coralie Abram-Palti.

SUSTAINABILITY PITCHES

The panellists will share their respective approaches to diversity and inclusion, to ensure equal rights and opportunities are represented through product or present in the workplace as well as among partner and supplier organisations. Wednesday’s sessions will conclude with the first of the Sustainability Pitch sessions, which will showcase the latest innovative initiatives from stakeholders across the industry as they vie for the Sustainability Hero and Trailblazer titles.

Planet and people part 2: Diversity and Inclusion

Thursday’s sessions commence with Circular Solutions: Innovations and Inspirations at 9am, where the diverse line-up of panellists will discuss a variety of initiatives on how travel retail can recycle, upcycle and/or reuse energy, water, waste, packaging, and find more sustainable alternatives to current business practices and rethink their circularity strategies.

Stephanie Paige, EVP Concepts, Design & Construction, Lagardère Travel Retail will be joined by Chris Morriss, Director & Partner at Concourse, Graeme Stewart, CEO at Enviro-Point, Alberto Lo Bue, Managing Director – Food waste heroes programme at OLIO, the CEO and co-founder of which will be among the keynote speakers on Tuesday morning, and Naomi MacKenzie, co-founder at Kitro.

Circular Solutions: Innovations and Inspirations

THE FUTURE OF FOOD

The first of the two category-specific sessions The Future of Food’ follows at 11.30am BST on Thursday 21 April, featuring speakers from food and confectionery companies and a sustainability consultancy. Stewart Dryburgh, General Manager, Nestlé International Travel Retail will explore the growing opportunities for the food category within global travel retail, beyond confectionery, particularly for sustainably produced and packaged food.

He will be joined by Thomas Kaneko Henningsen, Partner, Blueprint Partnership, Morten Paulin Ebdrup, Co-Founder and CSO, True Gum, part of the Humble Group and James Cadbury, CEO & Founder, Love Cocoa who will collectively discuss how food and confectionery suppliers large and small are approaching the consumer shift to more health-conscious consumption.

Ariane van Mancius, Founder at sustainability consultancy Now New Next will discuss the latest trends in sustainable packaging for the category as well as how consumers are increasingly seeking greater transparency from the corporate sector on the true price to society and the environment of consumer goods. Thursday’s sessions will conclude with the second Sustainability Pitch programme review.

The Future of Food

The second category specific session ‘The Spirit of Sustainability’ takes place on the morning of Earth Day, Friday 22 April at 11.30am. This session will see senior executives from the wines and spirits category share their insights and innovations on how producers are striving towards holistically sustainable alcohol, from grain to glass, including farming, production and packaging.

The session will commence with consumer insights on the shopper perspective and attitude towards sustainability in the category with m1nd-set’s Head of Business Development Anna Marchesini. The panellists will discuss the research findings and share their own company plans and perspectives. The final day of the 2022 TR Sustainability Week will commence with the closing keynote Green influencers: Combining People, Planet and Purpose’ at 9am (BST) on Friday 22 April, which will be divided into two parts; the latter of which will take place at 2pm (BST). The session will see participants share the latest developments on investments into sustainable solutions, in their packaging and production as well as their corporate social responsibility initiatives.

The second part of the closing keynote session will feature Lisa Bauer, CEO & President, Starboard Cruise Services who will be joined by Beatrice Descorps, Global Vice President Marketing, Molton Brown and Rob Holmes, Founder at GLP Films, who will provide thought provoking insight into how consumer behaviour is driving sustainability in the travel and tourism sector.
