Diversity & inclusion; TRBusiness broadens focus

By Charlotte Turner |

TRBusiness will continue to uphold its mission to ‘help the industry grow’ through its dedicated sustainability and consumer insight initiatives in 2022. It will also broaden its focus to include industry platforms on diversity and inclusion as well as mental health and wellbeing.

Now entering its 25th year, TRBusiness is proud of the plethora of pioneering platforms it has established in recent years – such as the Travel Retail Awards, TR Sustainability Week and the TR Consumer Forum – to help power our company mission to ‘help the industry grow’.

In the next phase of our mission, we will further develop our focus on sustainability beyond environmental issues. We will offer opportunities for the duty free & travel retail industry to openly discuss other CSR topics, such as ensuring diversity and inclusion in the workplace and offering appropriate levels of support for employees with regards to their mental health and wellbeing; especially since many employees are now working remotely or in a reduced capacity as a result of the pandemic.

Going one step further, the industry will also be given the opportunity to discuss how these topics impact the experiences of travelling consumers, throughout their journey, including but not limited to, their transition through the airport, using facilities, dining and shopping.

COMING SOON IN 2022

Following over 270 meetings (combined) with industry stakeholders during the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, it is clear that the industry is ready to talk about their own experiences and also learn from the practices of other like-minded companies in travel retail to guarantee they are doing everything they can to ensure a fair and healthy working environment for staff members who are often in different locations all over the world.

TRBusiness has built a solid foundation in educational platforms for the industry. Through our complimentary TRConnect webinars and the TRMarketplace digital event in 2020, and the complimentary Travel Retail Sustainability Week earlier this year, TRBusiness, along with its partner m1nd-set, is leading the way in knowledge-sharing and collaboration, driving the industry’s focus on sustainability along the way.

The pandemic brought about seismic shifts in consumer trends and behaviour prompting TRBusiness and m1nd-set to create an event entirely dedicated to delivering valuable insights on the most important stakeholder of all; the travelling consumer.

In 2021, TRBusiness and m1nd-set staged the inaugural TR Consumer Forum in September; the first physical event of its kind to take place in almost two years. The positive response to this truly unique event was overwhelming.

The Travel Retail Awards is the industry’s first and only consumer-voted travel retail awards. It connects retailers, suppliers and airports with consumers and unlike some other industry awards, has a direct and positive impact on the industry’s future.

At the first industry event dedicated to sustainability, TR Sustainability Week hosted an informative and comprehensive webinar programme. Stakeholders were also given the chance to showcase their products and initiatives to the industry via the Sustainability Pitch programme.

As well as the new projects to be announced in due course, we are delighted to confirm that the TR Consumer Forum, Travel Retail Awards and TR Sustainability Week will all return in 2022.
