Dixons Travel talking to airport business partners as store closures commence

Some Dixons Travel airport locations have now permanently closed.

Dixons Travel has shuttered five of its airport shops to date but is yet to reveal information on further closures.

As TRBusiness initially reported within the travel retail media, Dixons Travel is to end operations at all 35 of its shops including at 29 airport locations following a shock announcement in April.

The airport stores that have closed permanently were located at Newcastle Airport, Bristol Airport, Luton Airport, London City Airport and Edinburgh Airport, TRBusiness can confirm.

In addition, two shops onboard P&O’s cruise ships have also ceased trading.

Several of the electronic retailer’s stores are currently closed due to ongoing travel restrictions.

Currently, its shops at Heathrow Airport Terminal 2 and 5, Birmingham Airport, Gatwick North and Dublin Airport have re-opened and are trading as normal.

In the April announcement, the company stated that around 400 staff would be offered alternative roles in the Dixons Carphone Group.

A Dixons Carphone spokesperson told TRBusiness: “Our priority remains supporting our colleagues through the process. As we said at the time of announcement, we’re confident we’ll be able to offer any of the affected colleagues who want to stay another role elsewhere in Dixons Carphone.

“We remain in conversation with all our airport partners regarding each individual store and can’t yet confirm when each will close.”

In addition to locations at major airports across the UK, Dixons Travel operates concessions at Dublin and Oslo Airports.
