Dufry cuts ribbon to officially open Manchester Airport T2 walkthrough

Dufry says the shop has been well received by customers to date, having delivered a good performance despite changing travel restrictions.

Dufry Group has inaugurated its 1,980sq m World Duty Free walkthrough store at the new Manchester Airport Terminal 2 extension, which opened in July 2021.

Julián Díaz, CEO, Dufry and members of his management met with Manchester Airport Group (MAG) officials yesterday for an informal ribbon-cutting.

Fred Creighton, CEO, World Duty Free, commented: “We are extremely proud of the valued and long-standing partnership we have with the Manchester Airports Group and are delighted to join them to officially open this striking new store.

“It conveys such a strong sense of place and really reflects the great spirit and culture of Manchester. Feedback on the store has been extremely positive and we look forward to continuing to deliver a first-class shopping experience to each and every customer that visits Manchester’s new Terminal 2.”

The store, which started trading in August 2021, is the centrepiece of the terminal’s £1 billion transformation programme.

located in the international departures hall immediately after security, the shop sells core liquor, tobacco and confectionery items, plus luxury accessories.

It also houses a dedicated ‘World of Whiskies’ area.

Alongside the walkthrough unit, World Duty Free operates three stores in the Terminal 2 extension: a 129sq m Express outlet, a 231sq m Beauty Collection store, and a 230sq m Collection shop.

Stephen Turner, Group Retail & Commercial Director at Manchester Airport, added: “We are really pleased to see this new World Duty Free store officially opened.

“It is central to the offering in Terminal 2 and adds an extra dimension to the world-class passenger experience we aim to deliver in this flagship facility.

“It is fantastic to see the unique character of the region reflected in the store’s offering as well.”
