Gebr. Heinemann has reached an agreement with CEO of Scorpio Worldwide, Stuart McGuire to complete the purchase of subsidiary Heinemann Scorpio International Holdings Ltd, thereby transferring the Scorpio business to the global DF&TR operator in Hamburg.

As reported by TRBusiness back in 2007, Heinemann formally confirmed that it planned to take a 51% share in the UK-based inflight specialist, which then boasted listings onboard around 160 airlines.

McGuire will continue in his current position as CEO of Scorpio until the official handover later this year, when he will then take up a newly created role for Heinemann – which has not yet been decided – still very much connected with the inflight business he founded in 1997. McGuire will remain in the UK.

The two companies have significantly developed their inflight business since their original partnership in 2006 and are now one of the largest providers of products to the global market, either through regular or exclusive supply contracts.

Heinemann currently operates several exclusive supply contracts for airlines and concessionaires in Europe. Scorpio Worldwide Ltd is a wholesale supplier to most major airlines and concessionaires globally.

Scorpio Founder and CEO Stuart McGuire says: “We have enjoyed an extremely positive and successful partnership with Heinemann, serving airlines globally with a wide variety of products, and building market share for our brand partners.

‘FULL OMNI-CHANNEL SERVICE’

“We now take the next step in our cooperation, with considerable opportunities in a rapidly developing market. We have built our business on a reputation for innovation and customer service excellence and will aim to take this further with Heinemann. I thank all my team for their hard work and support in the past and during this next stage.”

lnflight Commercial Director John Baumgartner adds: “We look forward to the Scorpio trade to the GH inflight business, where we see good growth opportunities in their customer and brand proposition, as well as leveraging the significant synergies.

“We will endeavour to offer an airline retail supply solution not just on board, but with a full omni-channel service through our category management, ground based stores and logistics expertise.”

Co-Owner Claus Heinemann says: “We have a very special relationship with Scorpio and the McGuire family, and it is great that our two family businesses combine fully to address the opportunities and challenges of the inflight retail market into the future.”
