Gebr. Heinemann unveils supplier carbon programme

Gebr. Heinemann has launched a new supplier enablement programme with ClimatePartner aimed at helping suppliers measure and reduce product-related carbon emissions across the travel retail supply chain.

The free programme provides suppliers with training, methodologies and practical guidance to build Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) capabilities, enabling them to independently measure, collect and share product-level emissions data.

The initiative forms part of Gebr. Heinemann’s wider sustainability strategy to improve transparency around Scope 3 emissions and accelerate supply chain decarbonisation in collaboration with its partners.

The retailer said the programme supports its Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-validated climate goals, noting that the majority of retail greenhouse gas emissions occur within the supply chain.

Inken Callsen, Chief Commercial Officer at Gebr. Heinemann, said: “Decarbonising supply chains can only be achieved together with our suppliers and business partners. That is why we are pursuing a collaborative approach that builds capabilities, lowers barriers and creates the foundation for shared progress. Our goal is not to create additional requirements, but to actively support our partners on this journey.”

The programme focuses on Product Carbon Footprints, which measure greenhouse gas emissions across a product’s lifecycle and help businesses identify emissions hotspots, improve processes and make more informed decisions on reducing their environmental impact.

The initiative builds on work undertaken by the Travel Retail Data Innovation Group (TRDIG), which has been developing industry-wide standards for data exchange in travel retail. It also uses established GS1 product data standards, allowing suppliers to share emissions data without adopting specific software platforms.

ClimatePartner will deliver the programme, providing expertise in carbon accounting, training and implementation.

Gebr. Heinemann said suppliers can register for the programme immediately, with participation available free of charge.
