Glenfarclas appoints Ian Macleod Distillers as GTR distributors
By Benedict Evans |

As part of the new international distribution agreement effective from 1 July, IMD will represent the J&G Grant-owned Glenfarclas range alongside its own brand portfolio in GTR channels worldwide.
Ian Macleod Distillers (IMD) and J&G Grant are partnering to distribute J&G Grant’s Highland Single Malt whisky, Glenfarclas, in Global Travel Retail.
William Ovens, Head of Global Travel Retail, for IMD, said: “Glenfarclas is hugely respected and highly rated by discerning single malt drinkers and a fantastic addition to our portfolio.
This development creates an even stronger portfolio of multi-award-winning super premium single malts, comprising Glengoyne Highland Single Malt, Tamdhu Speyside Single Malt, Rosebank Lowland Single Malt, Smokehead Islay Single Malt and now, of course, Glenfarclas Highland Single Malt.”
IMD said this new partnership is a natural extension of the existing strategic relationship between J&G Grant and IMD, as both companies are long term co-owners of Scotland’s largest independent bottlers, Broxburn Bottlers.
“Through our extensive distribution network, we supply all international regions and just about all multi-national travel retail operators and many regional operators. We are confident that, given the scale of Glenfarclas and its loyal following, the brand will prove to be a real hit with our extensive customer base,” continued Ovens.
Extending the range
IMD’s travel retail team has worked closely with J&G Grant to develop a range for the channel which includes two entirely new expressions created exclusively for Travel Retail: Glenfarclas 11 years old 1L (RSP £49.99) and Glenfarclas 16 years old 70cl (RSP £79.99).
Both expressions are natural colour, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% abv, adding a further point of difference from the domestic expressions.
The range also includes the iconic Glenfarclas 105 1L (RSP £69.99), renowned as the first ever cask strength whisky release and a stunning Glenfarclas 35 years old 70cl (£765). To complete the line-up, a range of single casks will be released into the channel.
“Glenfarclas is more than whisky, it’s a celebration of Scottish craftsmanship,” said Duncan Grant, Head of Sales for J&G Grant, who added: “We are excited to embark on this venture with Ian Macleod Distillers.
As family-owned whisky businesses, we share many similar values and look forward to the extension of our very positive relationship to the Global Travel Retail channel and the opportunities the agreement will present to our valued customers.”
