Imperial Brands Global Duty Free and Export reveals new management team

Imperial Brands Global Duty Free & Export has appointed a new management team to lead the company in the future.

Christian Münstermann has been named new General Manager, Global Duty Free and Export effective August 2019, replacing Jorge Arias, who is assuming the role of Cluster General Manager — Central Europe & Ukraine.

Münstermann joined Imperial in 2012 and took on the role of Global Duty Free, Trade Marketing Director. In recent years, he has held the position of Sales and Marketing Director and been one of the key drivers behind the company’s global duty free and export business/strategy.

He boasts more than 20 years of experience working for Fast Moving Consumer Goods organisations such as Grand Metropolitan Foods, Campbell’s Soup Company and Hero and Reckitt Benckiser. At these companies, he held senior positions in finance, category management and sales and marketing.

NEW ROLE FOR ZOMPOLAS

Meanwhile, Giannos Zompolas, previously Finance Manager for the Middle East region for Imperial Brands’ duty free business, will take on the role of Head of Finance, Global Duty Free and Export. Zompolas will replace Andy Heley who is leaving the business at the end of September.

After joining Imperial in 2012, Zompoloas moved to the duty free team in 2014 as Finance Executive for the Europe region. He then took the role of Duty Free, Finance Manager for the Middle East region in 2016.

Christian Münstermann has assumed the role of General Manager, Global Duty Free and Export.

The appointments of Münstermann and Zompolas complete Imperial’s duty free management team which also comprises Tobias Baude, Head of Corporate and Legal Affairs Global Duty Free and Export.

Tobias Baude is now responsible for Imperial Brands’ Global Duty Free external affairs agenda.

Baude was appointed in October 2019 and has a strong background in public and regulatory affairs, having held a number of international roles across the business. These include Senior Engagement Manager, Track & Trace.

He is now responsible for Global Duty free’s external affairs agenda. This involves ‘safeguarding the uniqueness of the industry’, addressing regulatory challenges and overseeing legal and compliance.

Based in Madrid, the new management team will drive and accelerate the defined strategy for global duty free and export and continue to play a vital role in delivering the company’s vision and objectives.

Münstermann said: “I am thrilled to continue working with Tobias and Giannos to lead Imperial Brands global duty free and export business into a new and positive future.

“We have been very successful and achieved a lot in the last couple of years. This was only possible due to the great support of and cooperation with retailers, a strong portfolio of global and local brands and a very passionate team around the world.

“We’ll continue our focus on the tobacco category and at the same time build the very exciting category of new generation products in duty free.”

Zompolas added: “I am looking forward to this new opportunity and what we as a team and company can achieve within this exciting and dynamic global market.”

Emphasising the challenges ahead and opportunity associated with new generation products in duty free, Baude concluded: “It is vital to have a strong team and leadership for this key sector. I believe we have the perfect people to continue creating a great future for Imperial and tackle the challenges and opportunities which await us.”
