‘Lead with purpose’ say Diageo execs during first WiTR webinar of 2022

By Charlotte Turner |

Coinciding with International Women’s Day (IWD), today’s Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) webinar, featured two speakers from Diageo – Amy Mooney, Head of Brands, Diageo Global Travel and Sandra Tassilly, Commercial Director APAC, MENA and India, Diageo Global Travel, who invited attendees to collectively brainstorm on the topic of ‘finding your purpose’.

TRBusiness is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on 8 March with a global community of duty free & travel retail industry executives, including those members of the Women in Travel Retail (WiTR) group, with a dedicated website takeover.

During the webinar Mooney and Tassilly shared their experiences in their respective careers to date and explored the idea of leading with purpose and passion, including empowering teams to deliver the best possible results and achieve a common vision.

“Everybody has a purpose…it comes from your core,” said Mooney to kick off the session. “Your purpose provides meaning to your work and life.” Mooney also asked WiTR members ‘what makes your heart sing?’ prompting all in attendance to identify their core talents, passions and frustrations.

Mooney directed a seminar-style set of exercises designed to help attendees identify their purpose, which should inform every step of career progression, according to Mooney. She also pointed out that bringing this purpose to the working environment every day will genuinely help to elevate the overall performance of a company through the individual’s pool of unique talents, skills and attributes.

Today's session was one of the best attended of all WiTR's webinars to date.

Today’s session was one of the best attended of all WiTR’s webinars to date.

It was Tassilly’s job to share her experiences of travel retail and the sometimes challenging journey to her current position of Commercial Director APAC, MENA and India, Diageo Global Travel.

“What makes you distinctively you?” asked Tassilly. She also highlighted the importance of working under a manager with purpose. “Knowing you purpose at work will help you have a huge positive impact where you work…you will feel empowered and motivated…not only for yourself, but for the team.”

During a Q&A session which followed two impressive presentations from the Diageo executives, Mooney said that we should all build passion into our working day as well as trying to make time for passions, interests, hobbies etc outside of working hours.

Tassilly made it clear to participants that we should all accept positive feedback rather than deflect and find reasons to disbelieve compliments.

The webinar will be available to all WiTR members via its website.
