Maui Jim unveils five new sunglass styles
By Caroline Sargent |
Premium sunglasses supplier Maui Jim has added three new retro looks to its extensive range, each boasting Maui Jim’s proprietary ‘MauiPure’ advanced lens technology, said by the brand to be the world’s clearest non-glass lenses that are ultra-lightweight, scratch- and impact-resistant.
The ‘70s motorcycle-inspired ‘Breakers’ design (pictured right, style #288, $219 US MSRP) is a double-bridged, high-grade nylon aviator sunglass, with a lightweight frame and embedded rubber pads on the saddle-style nose bridge for added stability.
In addition to the company’s unique PolarizedPlus2 lens technology, the Breakers style also features bi-gradient mirrors that offer added sun protection at the top and bottom of each lens. Ideal for midsize to large face shapes, Breakers comes in Matte Black with Neutral Grey lenses for bright sunny days; Matte Tortoise with HCL Bronze lenses for variable light conditions; and Translucent Dark Grey with Maui HT lenses for a true throw-back look in any light condition.
The vintage styling of ‘Legends’ (pictured left, style #293, $259 US MSRP) dresses up any outfit. These lightweight acetate sunglasses have a real movie-star look with their squared-off shape and distinctive temples. Legends’ MauiPure lenses also have the brand’s patented bi-gradient mirrors and the design is perfect for smaller to midsize face shapes.
Meanwhile the classic ‘70s teardrop shape of an oversized metal aviator is updated in ‘Honomanu’ (below, style #260, $309 US MSRP). The ultra-light pure titanium frame is dressed up in Gloss Black and Neutral Grey lenses or Antique
Gold with Tortoise and HCL Bronze lenses, with an adjustable nose bridge for maximum comfort. Suitable for a wide range of faces sizes, the Honomanu lenses also benefit from the ‘MauiGradient’ graded tinting effect.
Sunglasses for all face shapes
Also new to the Maui Jim collection and suitable for a wide range of outdoor activities, are two styles similar in design but sized for larger or smaller faces.
‘Spartan Reef’ (STYLE #278, $229 MSRP) and ‘Kipahulu’ (STYLE #279, $229 MSRP) are full-frame nylon sunglasses that wrap round the eyes for maximum sun protection. Both feature ‘SuperThin Glass’ lenses that deliver clear, undistorted views and are, according to the brand, 20% lighter and thinner than conventional glass lenses. They are available in Gloss Black with Neutral Grey Lenses; Matte Tortoise Rubber with HCL Bronze Lenses and Marlin with HCL Bronze Lenses.
With its generous eye size and wide frame, Spartan Reef (above) is great for larger faces while Kipahulu fits small to mid-size face shapes.
Safe and effective sunwear
All Maui Jim lenses are packed with up to nine layers of patented PolarizedPlus2 lens technology, an innovation that has received the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation due it cutting 99.9% of glare, and eliminating 100% of UVA and UVB rays.
Recognized as safe and effective sun protection, Maui Jim sunglasses, ‘are an important part of an effective defence programme against skin cancers of the eye and eyelids.’
