By Luke Barras-hill |

In his long and distinguished career with Pernod Ricard, Mohit Lal made significant contributions in growth the group’s travel retail division.

Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail (PR GTR) Chairman and CEO Mohit Lal will retire in September, bringing to an end a nearly four-decade career in the corporate world.

Laurent Pillet, currently Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Eastern Europe, has been announced as the new CEO of Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail.

The announcement of Lal’s retirement brings to a close 23 years of dedicated service to Pernod Ricard.

Having joined the company in 1999, Lal was appointed Managing Director of Asia Travel Retail in 2015 before rising to Chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail the following year.

With the company’s headquarters moving to London, Lal was tasked with leading a new global entity and delivering a strategic roadmap for super-charged growth by driving efficiencies and uniting regions.

He successfully steered PR GTR through the Covid-19 pandemic, prioritising employee wellbeing while being a vocal proponent for growth within the DF&TR industry.

Under his leadership, PR GTR capitalised on the rebound by exploiting key traveller behaviours and data to anticipate their needs in a post-Covid environment.

A graduate of the University of Delhi, Lal qualified as a professional accountant before his career within the Pernod Ricard group began in 2001, when it acquired Seagram India.

Lal held roles as CFO of Pernod Ricard India, Financial Director of Irish Distillers and Managing Director of Pernod Ricard India before he took the post of Chairman and CEO of the group’s travel retail business.

“My 23 years at Pernod Ricard have been the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career, and a true highlight of my four decades in the corporate world.

“I have now chosen to step back from full-time employment to enter a new phase of my life that allows me to fulfil my bucket list that has had to stay dormant for a long time and be able to spend more time with family.

“I am confident I leave Global Travel Retail with a vibrant and secure future, and my successor Laurent Pillet will be supported by a truly exceptional team that will continue to drive success.”

Currently Managing Director Pernod Ricard Eastern Europe, Pillet’s career spans more than 30 years across sales, marketing and general management, 28 years of which have been spent at Pernod Ricard.

In 2002, he led the creation of Pernod Ricard Peru and Chile as Managing Director before becoming CEO of Pernod Ricard Andes.

Pillet played a key role in developing Pernod Ricard Sub Saharan Africa before taking on the position as Managing Director Pernod Ricard UK.
