Nestlé ITR announces KitKat Vegan launch during TR Sustainability Week

By Charlotte Turner |

 – TRBusinessTo coincide with 2022 Earth Day, Nestlé International Travel Retail (NITR) is launching KitKat Vegan Travel Edition. The news was revealed by Nicola Wells, Head of Category Development, Nestlé ITR, exclusively during TR Sustainability Week today.

As reported, Nestlé achieved the five-star ‘Sustainability Hero’ status for its Income Accelerator Program during TR Sustainability Week.

According to Wells, customers can expect to see the new product in travel retail stores from November 2022.

“We are giving consumers the opportunity to do something to contribute [in reducing their carbon footprint] and to educate them at the same time, but they are not having to compromise on taste,” said Wells, during the ‘Green Influencers, Combining People, Planet and Purpose’ closing keynote (part 1) today.

As reported, NITR has engaged Wells as Head of Category Development, effective 1 April, extending her link with the firm that she has been working with on a consultancy basis for the past year.

‘GOING BEYOND SUSTAINABILITY’

During the Green Influencers session, Wells highlighted that it’s now ‘about going beyond sustainability’ – as Stewart Dryburgh, General Manager at Nestlé International Travel Retail also talked about in the session ‘Future of Food’ hosted earlier this week (see video below) – while reiterating Nestlé’s ambitious goal of zero net emissions by 20250.

She also talked about the company’s focus on regenerative agriculture as well as ‘insetting’ vs ‘offsetting’ when it comes to carbon emissions.

“By 2025 we commit to sourcing 100% of our cocoa through our Cocoa Plan,” she added.

She referred back to Nestlé’s Income Accelerator Program, which garnered huge media attention since announcing it at the beginning of this year.

As reported, Nestlé ITR has been credited with the five-star ‘Sustainability Hero’ status for its income accelerator program.
