[UPDATED] Oloroso Sherry Casks Finish Collection joins St-Rémy Brandy staple

By Luke Barras-hill |

St-Rémy Brandy has launched the fifth expression of its Cask Finish Collection.

The St-Rémy Oloroso Sherry Casks Finish Collection can be found in global travel retail in markets including the UAE, Australia, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Singapore from 2021.

Released on a limited-run of 17,800 bottles in two formats (70cl and 1L), the new expression celebrates St-Rémy Master Blender Cécile Roudaut’s expertise in sourcing and maturing the brandy in various types of cask.

The St-Rémy Oloroso Sherry Casks Finish Collection was originally due to launch this year, but has been pushed to 2021 due to the impact of Covid-19.

The liquid is aged in ten casks previously holding Oloroso sherry and features rich notes of red fruits, figs, dates and cooked and candied fruits.

It joins other Cask Finish Collection expressions – the French Chardonnay Casks in 2018 and Cabernet-Sauvignon Casks in 2019.

TRBusiness and other media joined a special virtual tasting and pairing session of the Oloroso Sherry Casks Finish Collection today (7 September) led by St-Rémy’s Master Blender Cécile Roudaut and Hervé Buzon, Global Brand Director.

Asked about a timeframe for planned promotional activations in duty free and travel retail to support the launch, Hervé Buzon responded: “Usually we support collections with great activations, but for the moment we don’t know yet which airports will activate. It is unfortunately too early this year to tell what we will do and where.

“The recovery is very slow right now. Passengers are increasing slowly but surely, but travellers are not in the mindset of buying at the moment.

“Since its successful launch in 2018, the St-Rémy Cask Finish Collection has become an important part of our range,” added Buzon.

“Every new release is highly anticipated, and demand is strong, we have to manage allocations for the limited number of bottles issued.

The age of maturation in the casks was not disclosed.

In an exclusive interview last year, TRBusiness heard that St-Rémy Brandy is working to recruit new generations of consumers in travel retail.

This is an update of an original article published on 4 September.
