Ahmed bin Said Al-Amri, CEO of Oman Airports, stated that the agreement aims to enhance the commercial and operational revenues of the airports in the Sultanate.

Oman Airports has recently entered into an agreement with Changi Airport in the Republic of Singapore to boost the commercial and aviation revenues of airports across the Sultanate of Oman.

The signing ceremony was attended by Saeed bin Hamoud Al-Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology; and Chairman of Oman Airports’ Board of Directors, and signed by Eng. Ahmed bin Said Al-Amri, CEO of Oman Airports, and Mr. Eugene Gan, CEO of Changi Airport.

He emphasised that Oman Airports is proactively working to increase operational income by reducing costs, driving transformative changes in revenue streams, and improving airport performance.

“Airports today are diversifying their revenue sources through innovative strategies, launching tenders for concessionaires, and exploring new commercial sectors such as parking and retail,” Al-Amri stated.

He added: “At Oman Airports, we cooperate closely with all relevant stakeholders to elevate sector revenues. Oman’s strategic geographic position and the presence of multiple airports create an urgent need to develop an integrated framework aligned with Oman Vision 2040, positioning the sector as a key contributor to economic diversification.”

Al-Amri further noted that airports now operate as commercial entities, which requires strategic management of revenue and costs to improve profitability, especially in light of market fluctuations caused by geopolitical factors and the impacts from events such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

In response, airlines and the airport management industry have developed advanced algorithms and pricing strategies for revenue management.

Under this partnership, Changi Airport will offer practical solutions to enhance Oman’s airport revenues, while contributing to future initiatives that could increase income streams. Proposed measures include leasing land and developing themed activity zones designed for visitors and residents.

Al-Amri further emphasised that Oman Airports has leveraged international best practices in revenue management and dynamic pricing, enabling airports to implement flexible pricing models that respond to demand fluctuations and factors such as length of stay, parking occupancy rates, and airport service usage.

MoU with WCT International

In a parallel move, Oman Airports has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s WCT International to explore development and investment opportunities across lands surrounding Muscat International Airport.

This MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration aimed at facilitating the exchange of ideas and expertise to develop vital projects that enhance the entertainment and commercial experience for visitors and travellers.

The initiative will focus on expanding hospitality, entertainment, interactive experiences, and other mixed-use services to increase land investment value and boost returns from direct and joint ventures. These efforts are expected to significantly contribute to anticipated revenues from real estate development.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Eugene Gan, CEO of Changi Airport said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Oman Airports in exploring solutions to improve commercial and aviation revenues across the Sultanate’s airports. By leveraging our collective expertise, we will implement integrated solutions to develop the business environment and enhance commercial returns.

Oman’s strategic location as a gateway between East and West, along with its modern airports, creates a unique opportunity to expand both operational and commercial revenues.”

Changi Airport, which serves over 68 million passengers annually, is recognised globally as one of the world’s best airports.

It has received numerous international awards, including being named the World’s Best Airport for twelve consecutive years (2012–2020), and ranks second worldwide for the quality of its retail services.
