OUT NOW: TRBusiness August/September ezine
By Faye Bartle |

The August/September 2026 issue of TRBusiness magazine, featuring our dedicated food and confectionery report, is now available to view.
As rising costs and changing traveller behaviour reshape the landscape, food and confectionery stakeholders are turning to innovation, premiumisation and more targeted shopper engagement to help fuel growth.
Our contributing editor Holly Motion delves into this in her nine-page report starting on page 33, which carries comments from leading stakeholders including Gebr. Heinemann, Haribo, Ferrero Travel Market, Cartwright & Butler, Choco Myths, Ricola, Storck, Walker’s Shortbread, Mars Wrigley ITR and more.
We also examine m1nd-set research on the interplay between retail and food and beverage (F&B), with a key statistic being that 70% of airport journeys end with only one category visited. This represents a major opportunity for the industry to drive cross-conversation to unlock dual spend.
The Swiss research agency’s COO Clara Susset tells us more about this and how to maximise commercial value per passenger in our feature beginning on page 28.
It includes a valuable insight into what type of hybrid concepts resonate most with travellers, with a fashion or lifestyle brand with a branded café or cocktail bar reflecting the brand universe coming out on top (favoured by 34% of respondents), with a dedicated area for chocolate with an in-store dessert bar or café a close second (33%).

F&B was a fresh focus at the TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in May, with workshops, cooking demonstrations, and more attracting delegates into the interactive space – with the platform effectively integrating F&B into the broader commercial conversation.
Now, as the global travel retail industry looks forward to the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference in Cannes, we caught up with the association’s President Sarah Branquinho for an update on her journey at the helm so far, including how TFWA is maximising the value of industry events.
Assessing the health of the global travel retail industry today, she said: “The industry continues to demonstrate resilience, but there is no doubt that conditions remain complex. Recovery post-Covid has been uneven across regions, and business has been complicated by a spate of geopolitical instability which has severely disrupted travel patterns and brought cost pressures both for businesses and consumers.
“The first workshop of this year’s TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, ‘Global travel retail pulse: Opportunities in customer growth’, will draw on consumer research, executive perspectives and market analysis to discuss the current state of the industry and how we can strengthen its relevance.
“There is much to play for, but our industry can no longer simply rely on passenger growth to drive its own growth. The growth opportunity lies in conversion, and conversion depends on an understanding of the passenger that will get them out of lounges and their iPhones and into our stores.”

In addition, you can catch up on all our regulars, including this issue’s instalment of TR Sustainability Hub which showcases how Champagne Lanson is utilising its eight-hectare pilot vineyard in the Marne Valley to deepen its knowledge of organic and biodynamic winemaking methods.
Plus, we have a special focus on suppliers, bringing you exclusive insights into the GTR business strategy for Whyte & Mackay, Kosé, Shiseido, L’Occitane, Liht Organics and Rituals.
