Pi Insight & Research announces Shelftrak spin-off to accelerate growth
By Luke Barras-hill |

Pi Insight & Research Ltd has announced its Shelftrak service has become a standalone business, effective 31 March 2025.
The strategic move enables Pi Insight and Shelftrak to focus on their respective core strengths, while maintaining a collaborative partnership.
Pi Insight will sharpen its focus as a leading specialist in consumer and shopper research, particularly in the travel retail sector, with plans to expand its behavioural analytics capabilities, integrating qualitative and quantitative research streams with sales data to deliver greater actionable insights.
Shelftrak Ltd will now be led by former Counter Intelligence Retail (CiR) chief Garry Stasiulevicuis (Managing Director) and Simon Best (Commercial Director), supported by an experienced team.
The newly independent company will focus on AI-powered image recognition and execution intelligence to improve in-store performance across global travel retail.
“All-in on AI”
“This is an exciting next step for both businesses,” said Stephen Hillam, Managing Director of Pi Insight & Research Ltd. “While Shelftrak accelerates its path as a commercial AI technology company, Pi Insight remains firmly focused on decoding shopper behaviour.”
Stasiulevicuis said: “We’re going all-in on AI to enhance execution and shopping experiences — reducing out-of-stocks, improving compliance, and raising display standards.”
Shelftrak’s offering includes the Global Category Tracking Service and Shelftrak Compliance, which provide sku-level insights into category share, pricing, promotions, and planogram compliance across 75 retail locations in over 50 airports.

Shelftrak has become a standalone business.
These tools are said to enable global brands to identify gaps, optimise strategies, and drive executional excellence.
“This change gives us the freedom to grow Shelftrak into the go-to solution for AI-led retail execution,” added Simon Best.
Both companies will continue to collaborate where their services align, delivering insight solutions that bridge shopper understanding and in-store execution.
