Redbreast unveils Moscatel Wine Cask Edition in Iberian Series
By Naomi Chadderton |
Redbreast Irish Whiskey, part of the Pernod Ricard portfolio, has launched the latest expression in its award-winning Iberian Series with the release of Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition, now rolling out across key markets including global travel retail.
The fifth edition in the series continues Redbreast’s exploration of Iberian wine cask finishes, this time drawing on Moscatel wine casks sourced from the hills of southern Spain. Crafted by Master Blender David McCabe, the expression pays tribute to the brand’s historic links with fortified wines while introducing a distinctly Mediterranean character to the classic Single Pot Still style.
The whiskey is initially matured in a combination of ex-American whiskey barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, before undergoing a final 16-month maturation in Málaga Moscatel-seasoned hogsheads. Bottled at 46% ABV, the result is described as a more citrus-forward and elegant take on the Iberian Series, with notes of sweet tangerine, orange peel and chamomile layered with vanilla, floral honey and sugar-glazed fruits, alongside the hallmark pot still spice.
The Moscatel casks were prepared in partnership with Bodegas Quitapenas in Málaga, a fifth-generation family winery led by Marta Suárez Prieto and Víctor Suárez Onrubia. European oak hogsheads were seasoned with Moscatel wine for two years before being shipped to Midleton Distillery in Ireland for filling.
David McCabe said: “The launch of Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is a celebration of Redbreast’s heritage, craftsmanship, and incredible legacy dating back to the late 1800s.
“The use of Spanish Moscatel–seasoned casks is a tribute to Redbreast’s historic ties to sherry and fortified wines, and our appreciation for the incredible people across the region, including Marta and her family at Bodegas Quitapenas, which was founded in 1880. Their remarkable family heritage inspired the richness and depth of this expression.”
Marta Suárez Prieto added: “It has been a great honour to work with David and his team at Midleton on the launch of Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition, which pays such a wonderful tribute to our rich family history. Along with my cousin Víctor, we have taken great care to season the casks perfectly, to ensure the new expression is infused with wonderful flavours of sweet honey, dates and caramelised fruits alongside gentle herbal, floral and citrus tones.”
Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition will be available from 10 February 2026 in the USA, UK, Germany, Ireland, global travel retail and at brand homes, with an RRP of €100/£85/$109.99.
