TR Consumer Forum 2025 – TRBusiness

The second day of the 2025 TR Consumer Forum in Amsterdam, on Tuesday 3 June, brings a stand-out lineup to the fore with a dynamic keynote by Thabet Musleh, Chief Retail and Hospitality Officer at Qatar Airways, four engaging panel discussions, and six networking opportunities including the gala dinner.

Tuesday marks the first full-day of the conference, which is taking place at the Amsterdam Congress Center at Park Inn by Radisson Amsterdam City West from 2-4 June.

Tuesday sees registration open at 08:00 with the Coffee and Networking Lounge active from 08:00-08:45.

The conference begins at 08:45 with a brief welcome from our moderators before Qatar Airways’ Musleh takes to the stage for a keynote speech and interview, with the chance for delegates to put their questions to the leading industry figure. The keynote runs from 08:55-09:45.

Next, the conference will stage the first panel session of the day titled ‘The Future of Airport Real Estate’, which is running from 09:45-11:00.

This session will delve into the meteoric rise of in-terminal entertainment, health/wellness options, and pay-to-enter lounges and will ask whether these options are enhancing the airport experience or are increasingly distracting shoppers from spending on retail.

The session will explore what factors/strategies are at play to ensure complementary approaches to revenue generation and how can retail can wrestle back a competitive edge at a time when global spend per passenger is under perpetual strain.

The first of the afternoon’s panel sessions sees Michael Barrett, Events & Public Relations Director at m1nd-set, return to the Forum stage as a moderator to lead a discussion on ‘Boosting Cultural IQ to Drive Conversion’.

Speakers Trevor Lee, Managing Director, TravConsult; Julie Foley, Head of Global Retail Excellence, Pernod Ricard GTR; Marcus Spahn, General Manager Commercial Non-Aero, Matarat and Leanne Nutter, Brand and Retail Director, Blackjack Promotions will share their experiences and expertise on how serving such a culturally diverse customer base requires more than a one-size-fits-all approach.

This session aims to help stakeholders to tap into their cultural IQ (cultural intelligence) and how this presents on the shop floor, by exploring the ways in which sales staff can sharpen their know-how to better understand, engage and serve shoppers from a wide array of nationalities.

Once the session has wrapped, TRBusiness is delighted to debut ‘Over to You Live’ – an in-person iteration of our popular magazine column of the same name.

This takes the form of a 15-minute briefing on an idea that could be leveraged to benefit the DF&TR industry, with the first-ever edition featuring John McDonnell, Managing Director International, Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

McDonnell will explore why, in a high-tech world, there is a need for high-touch retail commercial environments to satisfy increasingly discerning consumer buying habits. The quick-fire spotlight session will explore how retailers can adapt to maintain essential personal interactions that drive consumer loyalty.

As part of this, he challenges why the industry is being underserved by the unavailability of a single universal travel retail app to connect consumers to duty free shopping wherever they are in the world, an idea he has long championed.

This session will be filmed and made available to watch by the wider DF&TR industry following the event.

A new face from m1nd-set, Consultant Anna Degli Esposti, will present the insights and will join a discussion featuring Alejandra Cilia, Global Brand Manager, Nestlé International Travel Retail; Fabian Siekierski, Key Account Manager, Fraport AG and a student from Breda University.
