As the end of the year edges closer, the editors at TRBusiness have taken a look behind the scenes to see which of our articles in 2023 have received the most views.
The results provide a glimpse of the year’s most-read stories*, published on our website. Simply see below for a round-up of the most clicked online news and features.
The list includes one of our most hotly anticipated announcements of the year – the finalists and winners of the Travel Retail Awards, as well as our report on the dawn of Avolta, the Dufry-Autogrill combined entity, which was announced in Cannes.
This is in addition to high profile new shop openings, major product launches and people stories.

1. REVEALED: 2023 Global Travel Retail Awards finalists
Our big reveal of the finalists of the consumer-voted Travel Retail Awards is one of our most eagerly anticipated announcements of the year so it’s no surprise that the big reveal in August takes the top spot of this list for 2023.
This year’s awards programme attracted a 38% rise in the number of entries, compared to 2022, with a bumper influx of product entries and an impressive number of consumer-conscious stakeholders being attracted by the refreshed lineup of promotion and CSR awards.

2. Winners revealed: Global Travel Retail Awards 2023
As our loyal readers may have predicted, the reveal of the finalists is closely followed by the announcement of the winners. The ceremony glittering ceremony took place on 3 October at Hôtel Martinez in Cannes to coincide with the TFWA World Exhibition and Conference. Congratulations once more to all those recognised!

4. Lotte plans Changi Terminal 2 ‘grand opening’ for new stores
The shopping experience at Changi is much written about and all eyes are on Lotte Duty Free’s new airport stores at the expanded Changi Terminal 2. Our report, published in October, brought you all the details, including illustrations showing a glimpse of what to expect.
5. Remembering an industry titan: Eugenio Andrades
Earlier this year, and with great sadness, TRBusiness reported the death of the extremely well-respected and much-liked Dufry senior executive Eugenio Andrades. The piece was widely read.

6. Dufry-Autogrill is ‘Avolta’; shareholders to approve new unified brand identity
In new that rocked Cannes, the Dufry-Autogrill combined entity was unveiled on 2 October during the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, complete with a new corporate fascia that synergises the travel retail and F&B businesses.

7. The Macallan launches TREX Colour Collection age statement whiskies
Another high-profile TREX released this year is The Macallan Colour Collection, created in collaboration with graphic designer David Carson. Comprising five age statement whiskies, the collection celebrates the brand’s commitment to natural colour and reflects the influence of sherry seasoning.
8. Johnnie Walker culls almost all GTR secondary packs, saving 183m boxes
Sustainability is a key content pillar for TRBusiness and this story of Diageo-owned blended Scotch whisky brand Johnnie Walker removing almost all of its secondary packaging in global travel retail channel, as part of its broader Society 2030 Spirit of Progress Plan, was a hit with our audience.
