Royal Salute issues special edition in ode to HM Queen Elizabeth II’s reign

By Luke Barras-hill |

Luxury blended Scotch whisky Royal Salute has released an ultra-prestige collectible in tribute to Her Majesty The Queen’s remarkable 70 years of service to the UK and Commonwealth realms.

The Royal Salute Platinum Jubilee Edition offers a nod to the Speyside whisky’s deep-rooted connections to the British monarchy, when the first flacons of the liquid were created in 1953 as a gift to Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation Day.

Released in June this year, 38 of the 147 individually numbered decanters of Royal Salute Platinum Jubilee Edition are available to travel retail shoppers around the globe.

Customers can search for the limited release souvenir at London Heathrow Airport, Dubai International Airport, Singapore Changi Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix International Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Incheon International Airport, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, Ben Gurion Airport and Sydney Airport.

Royal Salute Platinum Jubilee Edition is also available to purchase at specialist retailers at a RRP of US$20,000.

The bottlings are crafted from hand-blown Dartington crystal, while the boxes housing the decanters feature seven embossed lines – representing each of the seven decades.

Liya Zhang, Vice President of Marketing, Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail commented: “The ultra-prestige limited edition is the perfect piece of Jubilee memorabilia for travel retail shoppers – whether as a collector’s item to invest in to mark the historical moment or a souvenir to be generously shared with friends and family.

“As global travel picks back up, duty free basket sizes and value are increasing, reflective of shoppers’ desire to pick up premium products as part of their travel experience. We’re so pleased to be able to bring this momentous news release to global travellers.”

In a further tribute to Her Majesty, Royal Salute has partnered with London-based jewellers Bentley + Skinner to create a unique brooch in honour of the Platinum Jubilee.

The custom piece is made of 18 carat yellow gold, platinum and set with 70 diamonds.

Accompanying is a single crystal decanter and wooden box depicting the bespoke design.

To celebrate the launch of the ultra-prestige liquid, Royal Salute hosted an exclusive black tie event at the Tower of London on Tuesday 31 May that included a private viewing of the Crown Jewels and seated dinner.

The one-of-a-kind set featuring the brooch, bottle and box will be auction, alongside a separate lot of all seven crystal decanters via auction house Christie’s on 8 June.

Master Blender Sandy Hyslop drew on rare whiskies sourced from no fewer than seven stills to bring the expression to life.

It is finished for more than two years in Tawny Port casks – a wine served during a Coronation Banquet in 1953.

“It is an honour to have had a role to play in this piece of history; a task that has allowed us to release a prestigious whisky that also acts as a precious collector’s item for whisky lovers to cherish,” said Hyslop.

Her Majesty The Queen became the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee in February this year, marking 70 years on the throne.

The UK is celebrating the anniversary with a special four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June – Sunday 5 June.
