Sarah Farrelly is the new General Manager at Montenegro Duty Free.

Aer Rianta International (ARI) has promoted Sarah Farrelly to head up its Montenegro Duty Free operation.

Farrelly assumes the role of General Manager immediately, taking over from Deyan Fitzgerald who is due to return to the ARI Global Business Development team as Business Development Manager for Europe and North America.

She brings 11 years’ experience to her new role, having worked as Retail Manager at The Loop, Dublin Airport and most recently as Global Retail Excellence Executive.

ARI marked its return to the Balkans last year after opening stores at Podgorica and Tivat Airports, where it operates in partnership with Airports of Montenegro.

TRBusiness broke the news of ARI’s duty free contract win in Montenegro in 2019 (see link), with further details surfacing in 2020.

Nuno do Amaral, Chief Operations and Business Development Officer at ARI, expressed the travel retailer’s delight at the appointment.

“It is an exciting time to join our Montenegro team and with Sarah’s strong commercial acumen, deep customer knowledge and insight, and her ability to deliver excellence in retail, Sarah is the ideal choice to lead the future growth of our Montenegro business.

“I would also like to thank Deyan for his excellent leadership and commitment to Montenegro Duty Free in the midst of many challenges during the global pandemic.”

Farrelly added: “I am thrilled to be joining the Montenegro team and continue the success they have garnered in such a short amount of time. To launch two thriving stores during a global pandemic is not only testament to the skill and determination of the entire Montenegro team but also to the leadership and excellent navigation Deyan executed.

“I look forward to continuing this success story, deepening our partnerships with Airports of Montenegro and other key stakeholders, and further growing the business.”
