As 2023 draws to a close, the owners, directors and employees of TRBusiness would like to thank all of our loyal readers, viewers, advertising partners and sponsors for another year of unwavering support.

It has been a fast-paced year for the duty free and travel retail industry, with game-changing news coming thick and fast, a raft of exciting tenders, new partnerships launched and attention-grabbing activations by brands and retailers.

The feeling on the ground is that travel retail is well and truly back with a bang. However, we shouldn’t be complacent.

A report by management consulting firm Kearney, conducted for the Tax Free World Association and released in October, revealed that only 5-10% of passengers make purchases at airports and that, in total, GTR spend per passenger fell by 29% in 2022 to US$17. What’s more, says the report, it won’t be until 2023-24 that all ground is made up following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

As we reach this pivotal moment in the recovery trajectory, it’s vital to stay well informed of industry dynamics and TRBusiness is doubling down on its mission of helping the industry grow by bringing you insightful, intelligent and independent reporting across our digital and print touchpoints, as well as through our acclaimed events.

The industry’s only consumer-centric event, the TR Consumer Forum, marked its third annual edition in 2023, attracting a total of 241 registered delegates to the two-and-a-half days of conference sessions and networking in Vienna – a rise of 34%, compared to last year’s edition in Cyprus.

Furthermore, the Global Travel Retail Awards ceremony in Cannes was the biggest and best yet, welcoming almost 300 guests for a glittering affair.

Global Industry Suuvey 2024TRBusiness and m1nd-set would once again like to congratulate all those who were recognised.
