Shiseido has announced the launch of an investment arm called LIFT Ventures.

Beauty giant Shiseido has launched LIFT Ventures, a newly formed limited liability company used as an investment vehicle for early-stage beauty wellness businesses.

Headquartered in New York and led by Shiseido Americas President and CEO Ron Gee, LIFT Ventures is an abbreviation for Shiseido Long Term Investments for the Future.

Key investment focuses include novel technologies, innovative platforms, high-growth brands and new business models.

A primary focus is “compelling innovation” in the Western hemisphere, while maintaining a global lens.

The creation of the fund is in line with Shiseido’s 2030 goal of becoming a personal beauty wellness company, the firm said.

Inaugural investment recipients include Phi Therapeutics, Inc. (“Phyla”), a pioneer in bacteriophage technology, and Patrick Kidd Holdings Pty Ltd. (“Patricks”), a men’s grooming brand with an elevated lifestyle approach.

San Francisco-based Phyla was founded by Yug Varma, PhD. Patricks in located in Sydney, and was created by Patrick and Aimee Kidd.

LIFT Ventures: An ‘opportunity to build’

“Since Shiseido’s founding in 1872, innovation has served as a foundational pillar of our company and a critical component of our future,” said Masahiko Uotani, Chairman and CEO of Shiseido.

“The creation of LIFT Ventures represents a new opportunity to partner with organisations focused on creating pioneering beauty wellness solutions and to gain further insights and access for Shiseido’s growth ambitions.
