Solid recovery plan required for Covid-19, explains Duty Free World Council
By Luke Barras-hill |
The Duty Free World Council (DFWC) has started developing a so-called ‘framework protocol’ to prepare DF&TR businesses for shop re-openings and the operational recovery.
TRBusiness learned from DFWC President Sarah Branquinho in early April that the DFWC was busy aligning all regional trade associations towards a clearly defined agenda that pushes for vital support from governments worldwide.
Available on the DFWC website by 8 May, the downloadable protocol invites companies to submit their thoughts to help shape a global consensus for action.

DFWC President Sarah Branquinho spoke to TRBusiness in a recent episode of the ‘Adapt & Survive’ Skype video interview series.
DFWC ACADEMY TO RUN TRAINING PROGRAMME
In a statement, DFWC acknowledges the work of some companies on individual recovery plans.
However, the presence of several operators often working from the same location underpins the need to develop and submit ‘guiding principles’ for restarting the industry
“The DFWC is already working in an umbrella task force with associations and many more in the travel and tourism sector, under the auspices of the World Travel and Tourism Council,” read a statement.
“The aviation and maritime sectors have recognised the need for an agreed global approach to re-opening for business,” added DFWC. “The same will be true if the duty and tax free industry is to re-open for business with the trust of governments, landlords and customers.”
Meanwhile, the DFWC Academy will support the final protocol by devising a training programme for returning staff, which can be used on a standalone basis or personalised by individual companies.
