Hiroshi Senju has created collector’s edition presentation boxes for Suntory’s Hibiki 21 Years Old and Hibiki 30 Years Old whiskies.

The House of Suntory has raised the bar for luxury whisky presentation with a new artful collaboration that bridges Japanese craftsmanship, fine whisky and contemporary art.

Partnering with renowned painter Hiroshi Senju, the brand has unveiled collector’s edition presentation boxes for its coveted Hibiki 21 Years Old and Hibiki 30 Years Old whiskies, both available in limited quantities worldwide, including select travel retail locations from October 2025.

Collaboration celebrates Japanese artistry and craftsmanship

At the heart of the collaboration is Senju’s original work, Waterfall on Colors ‘Hibiki’, a monumental painting created especially for this partnership. The piece features ten shades of purple inspired by the Kokimurasaki gradient, a tone symbolic of Hibiki’s noble origins and enduring elegance.

Senju’s technique involves filling canvases with water and hokaimatsu, a natural marble powder, allowing pigment to flow freely and mimic the movement of falling water.

For the Hibiki 21 Years Old expression, Senju’s waterfall imagery adorns both the label and the presentation box, creating a visual dialogue with the whisky’s own sense of balance and refinement. The Hibiki 30 Years Old edition, meanwhile, has been transformed into a true collector’s showpiece. It arrives encased in a traditional byōbu-style folding screen display, complete with a reflective base, etched Hibiki emblem and waterfall motif wrapping the neck of the crystal bottle.

Hibiki’s blending philosophy reflected in design and flavour

Hibiki’s artistry lies not only in its design but in its composition — a meticulous blend of whiskies from the Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries.

The Hibiki 21 Years Old offers a graceful, blooming roundness layered with notes of honeycomb, sandalwood and dried apricot, underpinned by the subtle richness of Mizunara oak.

The Hibiki 30 Years Old, meanwhile, is deeper and more resonant, opening with tones of brown sugar, dried fig, gingerbread and apricot jam. Its finish is rich yet refined, showcasing the full depth of Mizunara oak and a warm hint of cinnamon. Both are bottled at 43% ABV.

Hiroshi Senju: bridging art, nature and tradition

Hiroshi Senju is one of Japan’s most celebrated contemporary painters, known for his large-scale waterfall works that combine traditional Japanese techniques with modern abstraction. A recipient of the Honorable Mention Award at the Venice Biennale, Senju’s work has been exhibited in major institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and his dedicated museum in Karuizawa, Japan, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The limited-edition expressions will be available in select markets worldwide, including travel retail.

His practice embodies the same ethos as Hibiki: respect for nature, precision of craft and the pursuit of harmony. Through this collaboration, Senju’s art finds a new canvas — one that brings visual depth to the sensory beauty of whisky.

Limited release includes travel retail availability

The two limited-edition expressions will be available in select markets worldwide, including the United States, Europe, China, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea and global travel retail.

Reflecting the growing trend of collectible releases in duty free and luxury retail, this collaboration positions Hibiki firmly within the world of fine art and high-end gifting, appealing to whisky aficionados and collectors seeking both rarity and craftsmanship.

The Hibiki 21 Years Old Artist Collaboration with Hiroshi Senju will retail for $899.99 USD, while the Hibiki 30 Years Old edition will be priced at $7,500 USD.
