The Macallan dresses in black for new prestige line-up

The-Macallan-Rare-Cask-Black-Edrington-leadEdrington Global Travel Retail will introduce TFWA World Exhibition visitors to a new ‘prestige’ line-up of products from its luxury single malt brand The Macallan next month in Cannes.

Leading the charge is The Macallan Rare Cask Black Limited Edition 2018 (48% ABV), a new travel retail-exclusive limited edition bottling of the brand’s Rare Cask Black whisky.

The new expression features a print of one of The Macallan’s Six Pillars – its Curiously Small Stills – captured by world-renowned Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin.

Limited to 7,000 bottles, the commemorative pack also includes a pewter flask featuring an illustration of The Macallan’s new distillery and visitor experience.

“The Macallan Rare Cask Black whisky is quite unlike other expressions from The Macallan,” stresses Edrington. “Less than 1% of the casks maturing in The Macallan reserves meet the strict criteria for this distinctive whisky with its surprising yet subtle smoky flavour.”

Igor Boyadjian, Managing Director, Edrington Global Travel Retail, commented: “The Macallan Rare Cask Black Limited Edition is a unique culmination of creativity, innovation and experimentation, and a celebration of our stunning new distillery.

“Rare Cask Black has played an important role in our ongoing premiumisation drive, bringing a distinctive and differentiated smoky take on The Macallan and a unique visual identity that has resonated strongly with travellers around the globe.

The Macallan Rare Cask Black Limited Edition 2018 has an RRP of US$495 and will be available in selected airports around the world.

In addition to Rare Cask Black, Edrington will also be showcasing its fourth limited-edition decanter from The Macallan Golden Age of Travel series; a travel retail exclusive range in collaboration with French crystal maker Lalique, featuring ‘an exceptionally rare period Macallan, distilled in 1937’.

FORTY-EIGHT EDITIONS ON OFFER IN TR

“This scarce Macallan vintage was first bottled in 1974, and rebottled in 2018,” says Edrington. “The whisky is showcased in a beautiful handcrafted Lalique crystal decanter, of which only 50 have been made, and features an illustration of a classic 1930s motor car.”

Forty-eight individually numbered motor car editions will be released in global travel retail from October 2018. The remaining two decanters will be kept for The Macallan and Lalique archives.

Finally, Edrington says The Macallan M Black 2017; another collaboration with Lalique, will also travel to Cannes. The Macallan M Decanter, now crafted in black crystal, is an example of a particularly rare and more challenging form of crystal making, says Edrington.

Edrington will also be showcasing its fourth limited-edition decanter from The Macallan Golden Age of Travel series.

“Each decanter features six facets which homage to The Macallan’s heritage and the Six Pillars foundation stones at the heart of its ethos: The Spiritual Home, the distillery’s Curiously Small Stills, The Finest Cut, Exceptional Oak Casks, Natural Colour and The Peerless Spirit.

“Each decanter is individually numbered and hand-engraved by the artisans of Lalique Cristal in Wingen-sur-Moder, in the Alsace region of France.”

Limited to 725 black crystal decanters, M Black is priced at US$6,995 and follows five annual releases of M since 2013.
