Six decades of the James Bond films are being celebrated with the release of six limited edition bottles containing a single malt whisky, The Macallan distillery has announced [see below video].
The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release (ABV 43.7%) will be available from The Macallan global network of travel retail boutiques globally from today (9 January) at a RRSP of US$800/£600.
Each unique pack boasts an original design and colourway denoting the decade it represents.
They bring to life the creative development of the films through a behind-the-scenes exploration of the James Bond archives.
The iconic secret agent immortalised in [late] author Ian Fleming’s novels is revisited in a tale of innovation over 60 years.
While Bond’s roots are British, his heritage is Scottish, with his father Andrew Bond from Glencoe, where James spent much of his childhood at the ‘Skyfall Lodge’ – the family’s Scottish estate and title of one of the films.
During that film, James indulges in The Macallan Fine & Rare 1962.
Jeremy Speirs, Regional Managing Director, Edrington Global Travel Retail, said: “The Macallan’s partnership with the James Bond franchise brings together two Scottish icons in what must surely be one of our most high-profile and exciting collaborations to date.
“James Bond’s worldwide appeal will undoubtedly make this new collection one of our most sought-after launches, further strengthening The Macallan’s reputation in travel retail for exclusivity and collectability.”
Crafted by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell, the liquid itself has a natural colour of Suisse gold with the ABV acting as a homage to the famous spy’s number – 007 – consistent across all six packs.
Jaume Ferras, Global Creative Director for The Macallan, added: “This October, James Bond will celebrate its 60th anniversary, making it the longest running and one of the most loved franchises in the world of entertainment, comprising 25 films over six decades and six lead actors over time. The Macallan is James Bond’s whisky of choice and as two renowned global brands, we share many synergies, most notably as modern innovators linked by our Scottish heritage.”
