‘The Sustainability Pitch’: An industry-first recognition programme

By Michael Barrett |

TRBusiness is recognising and rewarding sustainable products and initiatives associated with the global travel industry through its latest initiative, ‘The Sustainability Pitch’ – a pioneering concept created to celebrate all things green – which will play a central role in the first-ever TR Sustainability Week due to take place on 19 April to 23 April 2021.

Companies from all sectors of the travel retail industry, as well as companies partnering with our industry’s stakeholders, will be able to take part in the first-of-its-kind recognition programme.

Timed to coincide with global ‘Earth Day’ on Thursday 22 April 2021, TR Sustainability Week is also the first ever sustainability-focused event for the global travel retail industry.

Brands, packaging companies, airlines, airports, retailers, cruise and ferry companies as well as F&B operators and other affiliated service providers* are all eligible to submit entries for ‘The Sustainability Pitch’, which allows participants to present and showcase their sustainability-focused products, packaging, services, concepts and/or wider company initiatives to the global travel sector.

TRBusiness is teaming up with eco-conscious retailers and airports as well as sustainability experts to determine the categories in which entrants will be judged. The categories will be product-specific, packaging-focused, or allocated according to other similar sustainable services and initiatives. Three judges will be selected for each category.

Entrants are required to film a short video pitch about their entry, which will then be aired during a live webinar session to be held during the TR Sustainability Week virtual event for the benefit of the judging panel and all event attendees.

During the webinar, entrants will have the chance to answer questions from the judges in a Q&A session.

When all the pitches have been heard, the judges will announce a ‘sustainability hero’ for each category, again during a live webinar session. They will be presented with an official certificate and will be able to use The Sustainability Pitch ‘hero logo’ on all their marketing material. Heroes also receive a full page profile in the TRBusiness e-zine about their successful entry.

Companies interested in taking part in The Sustainability Pitch or finding out more about the initiative can register their interest by completing this short form; one of the TRBusiness team will be in touch to discuss further.

Don’t forget, during TR Sustainability Week, industry stakeholders will be given the opportunity to network with event sponsors and those taking part in The Sustainability Pitch initiative. This will provide a unique opportunity for discussions on the new and more sustainable future of our industry.

“TRBusiness has stepped up its coverage of all sustainable initiatives and programmes across the industry considerably in recent years, particularly since the launch of the Travel Retail Sustainability Forum in 2019,” said TRBusiness Co-Owners and Joint Managing Directors Nigel Hardy and Janice Hook.

“The Best Green Initiative at an Airport Award, one of several new awards in the 2020 Travel Retail Awards, also underlines our commitment to encouraging greater sustainability in the industry.

“Travel Retail Sustainability Week is a natural progression for us and one which is generating significant interest from all corners. All eyes will be on these pitches as well as the other webinars during the five-day programme.”

“We will be offering extensive coverage and promotional opportunities to Sustainability Pitch participants across all TRBusiness media platforms, including our new eco-conscious digital e-zine; via TRBusiness.com and in our twice-weekly e-newsletters.

“This is of course in addition to prime networking and branding opportunities throughout Travel Retail Sustainability Week.”

“We want to shine a spotlight on these highly commendable sustainability initiatives, whilst continuing to encourage the industry to introduce cleaner and greener products, practices and procedures.

“TRBusiness remains fully committed to and invested in the travel retail industry, with initiatives such as Travel Retail Sustainability Week.”

Travel Retail Sustainability Week will take place from 19 April to 23 April 2021, timed to coincide with global ‘Earth Day’ on Thursday 22 April 2021. Registration will open in the near future.
