Aer Rianta International (ARI) has appointed Tom Byrne as Director of Retail at ARI Ireland.

He will take up his new role in July and join the ARI Executive Team.

Boasting more than 30 years’ experience in travel retail, Byrne returns to the Dublin-headquartered firm after spending time in Saudi Arabia as Executive Vice President of Saudi Airlines Catering Company.

Byrne first joined ARI in 1993, working in various retail and operational management roles across five countries.

In 2008, he took up the role of General Manager at Muscat Duty Free for ARI Middle East before moving to ARI Auckland where he held the same position until May 2021.

A statement from ARI points to Byrne’s ‘strong proven record in developing and delivering long-term strategy, driving global retail operational excellence, and leading teams to success’.

Ray Hernan, CEO at ARI, commented: “On behalf of the entire executive team, the team at daa, and myself, we are delighted to welcome Tom back to our business. With his in in-depth knowledge of the business, commercial acumen, and a results focus, Tom will undoubtedly further strengthen our collective efforts as we continue to deliver exceptional customer experiences in Ireland.

Glen Morgan is GM for North America

As the new GM of ARI North America, Glen Morgan has held leadership roles in the Middle East and Asia, most recently as Managing Director & VP at DFS Middle East.

“I would like to thank Martin Carpenter for providing additional support to the ARI Ireland team during the period which the role of Retail Director has been vacant.”

Byrne added: “I am thrilled to be back at ARI to take on this prestigious role and look forward to immersing myself with the ARI Ireland and daa teams. As we enter a busy summer season, I am excited about the opportunities to continually enhance the customer experience and unrivalled offering for passengers in Dublin and Cork Airports.”

In related news, Glen Morgan was last week named as the new General Manager of ARI’s North America operations.

He joins ARI from DFS Middle East where he has spent the last 10 years as Managing Director and Vice President.

After beginning his retail career with Marks & Spencer in the UK, Morgan worked extensively across the Middle East and Asia, occupying leadership roles with Alshaya Group and M.A.P. Luxury Division.

Nuno Amaral, Chief Operations & Business Development Officer, ARI, commented: “We are delighted to have welcomed Glen to ARI, and we’re confident that his long-standing travel retail experience will continue to enhance operational and retail excellence, supporting our teams, our partners and future growth across the region.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Jacques Dagenais for his exceptional leadership of our business in North America, during the interim period before Glen assumed his position.”

Morgan said: “It is a privilege to have joined the team here at ARI North America. I’ve been warmly welcomed by the entire ARI global network and have spent the past few weeks immersing myself in our operations as the business continues to grow at pace.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of ARI as we focus on continuous improvement, innovation and growing our portfolio to galvanise future success.”
