Tony’s Chocolonely hosted an activation at Extime Duty Free Paris at Paris CDG to mark the partnership.

Tony’s Chocolonely has signed a global partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail as the impact-led chocolate brand looks to accelerate its expansion in the travel retail channel.

The agreement will see Tony’s roll out across a growing number of Lagardère Travel Retail-operated airport locations, building on its existing presence at its home hub of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

Travellers will be able to find the brand at airports including Brussels, Zagreb, Prague, Lyon, Marseille, Paris, Nice, Rome, Naples, Palermo, Auckland and London Luton. Tony’s said the partnership will significantly expand the reach of its ethically sourced chocolate and give it a larger platform through which to communicate its mission to end exploitation in the cocoa industry.

The partnership has been marked by a dedicated activation with Extime Duty Free Paris at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, centred around a limited-edition Pick & Mix suitcase concept. Running from 23 June to 27 July in Terminal 2E, Gate L, the activation invited travellers to select two 240g Tony’s Chocolonely bars and pack them into a Paris-themed suitcase, available free with purchase for a limited period. The 240g bars are Tony’s largest chocolate format and are available exclusively within duty free and travel retail.

Designed as both a gifting proposition and travel souvenir, the activation combined the brand’s typically playful approach with messaging around its wider social mission.

The expanded distribution also gives Tony’s an opportunity to introduce more international travellers to its cocoa sourcing model. All Tony’s chocolate is made using cocoa beans sourced from Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana according to the company’s five sourcing principles. These include using 100% traceable cocoa beans and establishing long-term partnerships with cocoa cooperatives, as well as paying a higher price intended to enable farmers to earn a living income and investing in sustainable farming practices.

Tony’s said increasing its presence through Lagardère Travel Retail will help amplify this mission among a wider international audience, while ultimately supporting its ambition to accelerate the shift towards a more ethical cocoa industry.
