Seoul’s Incheon Airport tops the list once again.

This year’s Top 10 airports – as ranked by DF&TR sales – have outpaced their combined passenger traffic growth; something which has only happened a handful of times over the years  that TRBusiness has been producing this report, which appears in the August issue of the magazine.

TRBusiness estimates that duty free & travel retail sales at the Top 10 airports reached a total of $11.58bn, up approximately 6.2% (like-for-like) in 2017 vs 2016. Total passenger traffic grew 4.7% to 703.2m.

As is explored in the Top 10 Airports report, it is suggested that this is perhaps partly attributable to the increased number of Asian airports in the top 10 list; more than ever before.

Asia generates the greatest share of global sales across all channels, with airports being a driving force.

SEOUL, DUBAI AND SINGAPORE

There wasn’t much movement at the very top of the table where Seoul’s Incheon Airport still sits in first position with $2.1bn in DF&TR sales.

Dubai Duty Free generated DF&TR sales of $1.93bn in 2017.

Dubai International placed second with $1.93bn generated by Dubai Duty Free, exceeding 2016’s sales turnover of US$1.85bn by +5.6%.

Climbing the ranks to No 3 in 2017, Singapore Changi boasted a 7.6% growth in sales to more than S$2.5bn ($1.84bn).
