DF&TR skus shine for Tomatin at San Fran spirits’ awards
By Luke Barras-hill |
Single malt Scotch whisky distillery Tomatin scooped ‘Double Gold’ at the recent San Francisco World Spirits Competition for its travel retail exclusive 40 Year Old.
Travel retail’s 15 Year Old and 12 Year Old also won golds, joining ‘Silver’ for the 8 Year Old in the distillery’s 13-medal haul at the spirits’ ‘Oscars’.
Judges undertook four days of blind tastings before judging each entry on its own merit.
The ‘Double Gold’ – awarded to the very few entries that receive a Gold medal – makes Tomatin’s 40 Year Old among one of the finest products in the world.
This year was the first time the 40 Year has entered this competition since its release in 2016.
This exceptional malt is matured in Oloroso Sherry casks, is smooth and a rounded triumph of dark and tropical fruits resulting in a big and fruity finish with just a touch of oak.
Founded in 2000, the annual San Francisco World Spirits Competition honours exceptional spirits in the industry.
