Travel Retail Awards 2019: Winners announced
By Luke Barras-hill |
TRBusiness is delighted to announce the winners of the second consumer-voted Travel Retail Awards in association with m1nd-set.
On an evening that attracted record numbers, the 2019 iteration of the awards held once again at the Singapore Conrad Centennial Hotel (Monday 13th May) delivered priceless insight backed by critical research and market opinion to honour the products and airports that stood the ultimate test – consumer feedback.
One year on from its inaugural launch, the Travel Retail Awards continues to deliver real return on investment for suppliers, airports and retailers alike, with a total of [18] awards (five airport; 13 product) handed out on the evening.
[For the full list of finalists and winners see below].
Guests enjoyed a night of entertainment, celebration and most importantly – education – at an event that has broken the mould of conventional awards’ occasions to truly disrupt the industry.
RECOGNITION GUARANTEED
Aside, cocktails, a four-course sit-down dinner, drinks and high-powered networking among some of the most important stakeholders in the industry, attendees were also treated to TRBusiness’ unmistakeable dash of hospitality – a fantastic after party as an extension of the hugely popular TRBusiness Rocks event.
As is customary, winners will now be able to showcase the prestigious Travel Retail Awards logo, which travellers can identify at airports and on travel retail products worldwide.
The logo has become synonymous with genuine consumer appeal and represents a mark of confidence in travel retail airports and products.
TRBusiness and m1nd-set joined forces to devise the Travel Retail Awards out of the notion that shopping plays an essential role in the passengers’ overall travel experience.
Similar to last year, the judging process married initial blogger and vlogger (video blogger) assessments with detailed analysis carried out among thousands of international travellers from m1nd-set’s unique database.
Each product entered into the awards received assessments from travellers passing through airports in the past six months.
Consumers also cast their views on their favourite airports based on customer service, digital and social media services, sense of place and the best environment for shopping – split out by votes according to millennials and all age groups.
A carefully curated panel of bloggers and vloggers – all from different backgrounds with their own unique product and travel experiences – provided expert thought and opinion on the categories.
M1nd-set’s research accounted for 70% of the total score, with blogger and vlogger feedback making up the remaining 30% of the assessment.
The Swiss research agency determined the finalists’ line-up according to a minimum scoring matrix in each category.
Only those that reached a critical benchmark high-score for their category were nominated for the shortlist, with winners receiving detailed feedback on performances according to key criteria.
As part of the evening, TRBusiness also hosted a charity raffle to raise funds for SOS Children’s Villages as part of a special initiative with Dufry with a host of fantastic prizes offered, including a US$459 Montblanc Meisterstück Platinum Line Pen pledged by the travel retailer and a SGD$1,000 gift card kindly donated by Headline Sponsor Changi Airport Group.
A percentage of every table/seat booked was also donated to the charity, which is active in 135 countries globally and helps to protect hundreds of thousands of children each year while facilitating access to vital community support networks such as schools and health centres.
The charity raffle managed to raise SGD$9,000 for the worthwhile cause on the evening.
DUFRY MATCHES FUNDS RAISED
In an exceptional show of generosity, Dufry announced it would match the funds donated to the charity on the evening.
Janice Hook and Nigel Hardy, Co-owners, TRBusiness shared their thoughts on the event: “Congratulations to all the winners and finalists at this year’s consumer-voted Travel Retail Awards. The momentum generated by this ground-breaking initiative is being embraced by suppliers, retailers and operators and you only have to look at the many examples of those who have already amplified their exposure and financial returns.
“This benefits the entire travel retail ecosystem and those not involved are missing out on a significant opportunity, one that is transforming the perception of airport shopping by letting the consumers vote with their hearts – and wallets.”
Peter Mohn, CEO, m1nd-set added: “After the huge success of last year’s first and only consumer-voted Travel Retail awards, we are very pleased to find even more companies and brands participating this year.
“Additionally we broadened the number of airports assessed by consumers this year to 61 in total, so more players in the industry will receive detailed feedback about how they are perceived by the travellers.
“Most important are of course the clear results at point of sale demonstrated by suppliers and retailers, and this is tangible proof of the quality and recognition afforded to those who win the Travel Retail Awards.
“We at m1nd-set are glad and proud to contribute to improving the industry’s performance by making the voice of the customer heard through sophisticated, objective and representative research.”
