Travel Retail Awards 2018 winners reap real rewards

Awards image JPGSince the inaugural Travel Retail Awards – the first consumer-voted awards dedicated to the duty free and travel retail industry – took place last May in Singapore, yet more award-winners can reveal the tangible benefits – and sales growth – they have achieved as a result of their success at the event.


Just recently, Desigual was proud to share with TRBusiness that not only was their success last May ‘a big surprise’ in Singapore, but the ‘incredible award’ helped them enormously in the last year.


The brand told TRBusiness that the award specifically boosted its presence in Asia and LatAm Travel Retail. Knowing that the product has been so well received by the end consumer has made buyers feel more confident, insists Desigual, “especially the new ones who have never worked with Desigual before”.

“The sales results also confirm how well-received the product has been,” adds Desigual, which says it is using the winners logo for the product’s listing within inflight magazines, allowing it to stand out from its competitors.




“We are encouraged to compete again, up against the best brands [in the industry]. We hope we can achieve the same success in 2019 with our new products.”



Desigual says the ‘incredible award’ helped them enormously in the last year.

TRBusiness was keen to back up the anecdotal evidence of the winners (and finalists) with a study conducted by travel retail consumer research experts, m1nd-set.


TRBusiness can reveal that 31% of consumers would be influenced to purchase a product in duty free & travel retail stores upon seeing its Travel Retail Awards ‘Voted by Shoppers’ winners logo. In addition, 22% of those surveyed said they would be influenced by the finalist logo.


Will Naylor, Senior Brand Manager, Whisky, Bacardi Global Travel Retail tells TRBusiness why it an easy decision for BGTR to enter the awards again in 2019.

Meanwhile, Lego says it remains ‘extremely proud’ of winning a Travel Retail Award and has since used the winners logo on its travel retail advertisements as well as on its stand at the TFWA Exhibition in Cannes last year.



Carla Dupisson, Global Operational Marketing Director for Interparfums adds her praise to the Travel Retail Awards game-changing initiative: “Thanks to the travel retail awards, we were able to increase the brand awareness/fragrance exposure in areas where Oscar de la Renta is less well-known.
