Travel Retail Norway is latest signatory to anti-illicit trade declaration

Duty Free World Council (DFWC) and Tax Free World Association (TFWA) have announced Travel Retail Norway (TRN) as the newest signatory to the associations’ anti-illicit trade declaration.

The addition of TRN bolsters the ranks of travel retailers committed to combatting illicit trade, counterfeiting and intellectual property theft across the industry.

As reported, TFWA and DFWC launched the declaration in July 2023. It has attracted a spate of travel retailer signatories to date, including DFS Group, Duty Free Americas, Aer Rianta International, Dubai Duty Free, Dufry Group, Gebr. Heinemann, Lagardère Travel Retail, Rio de la Plata, and Qatar Duty Free.

“DFWC and TFWA are pleased to welcome Travel Retail Norway to the growing list of retailers publicly committing to never permit any form of illicit trade, counterfeiting or intellectual property theft, and to hold their commercial partners to that same standard,” said DFWC President Sarah Branquinho.

“We welcome the support of any travel retail operator or supplier to wishes to be a part of the declaration, and we continue to encourage members of our industry to join us.”

Travel Retail Norway Deputy Chief Executive Haakon Dagestad added: “We are proud to join our industry colleagues in taking this clear and strong stance against illicit trade, counterfeiting, intellectual property theft, and any form of criminal activity that threatens the reputation of the travel retail sector.

“Our industry’s supply chain is robust and transparent, and we have a rich history of close collaboration with customs and enforcement authorities in Norway and around the world. This is an important issue for our industry, and we encourage other retailers and suppliers who have not already signed the declaration to join us in doing so.”

The launch of the declaration followed the successful 2022 roll-out of the ‘Duty Free: Trusted, Transparent, Secure’ campaign by TFWA and DFWC.

TFWA and DFWC are hosting a Duty Free: Trusted, Transparent, Secure workshop on Wednesday 4 October (08:00 CET) at the Barrière Hotel Le Majestic Cannes during the TFWA World Exhibition & Conference, where the associations will update delegates on the declaration and anti-illicit trade campaign.
