Charity raffle: GTR rallies to support environmental education initiative

By Michael Barrett |

A number of generous companies in global travel retail have pledged thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes to the charity raffle draw, which will take place at the end of the consumer-voted 2020 Travel Retail Awards on Tuesday 29 September.

Funds raised will benefit the ‘Litter Less Campaign’ in New Delhi, India, an initiative of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).

As announced earlier this year, the project has been nominated by Mars Wrigley – a long-time partner and benefactor of the FEE and one of the Platinum Sponsors of the Travel Retail Awards.

All are encouraged to enrol and watch the ceremony. Ticket holders do not have to be present to qualify to win one of the fabulous prizes. In addition, anyone can take part and win by purchasing one or more tickets.

Beam Suntory has donated a $2000 bottle of Bowmore Islay Single Malt

Partners of the Travel Retail Awards and TRMarketplace have rallied to donate a large number of high-value products to help raise funds for the environmental project [click here or below to view the list of prizes].

The many prizes, which are worth several thousand dollars, include five tickets for the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw to have a one-in-5000 chance to win US$1million; a S$500 cash donation from Singapore Changi Airport; a pair of Iconics Porsche Design limited edition sunglasses by Rodenstock; two cases of Amarula and one case of Tobermory Hebridean Gin (18 bottles in total) from Distell.

Among the many other generous product donations are three beautiful watches courtesy of E.Gluck Corporation, from the Anne Klein and Torgoen ranges, five single malts courtesy of Douglas Laing, a selection of three premium spirits donated by The Three Stills Company and a portable speaker from Nuwave Channel Partners.

The star prize for the charity raffle has been very kindly donated by TRMarketplace webinar sponsor Beam Suntory. The Bowmore Islay Single Malt Mizunara Cask Finish, which has been aged in Japanese Mizunara oak casks, is ‘an intriguing marriage of Scottish strength and passion with Japanese elegance and refinement’.

The unique collector’s item is valued at over $2,000 and is appreciating, according to the Beam Suntory Global Travel Retail team.

Use the secure payment gateway on the Charity Raffle page or click the links in the story. One ticket will be attributed for every £25 donation and for any donation of £100, five tickets will be allocated. TRBusiness encourages all individuals and companies to take part by purchasing at least one ticket to help raise funds for this worthy cause.

Litter is a form of pollution that poses an increasing global problem. But that can be solved by changes to individual behaviour, as Daniel Schaffer, CEO of FEE told TRBusiness earlier this year when the fundraising partnership was announced.

The Litter Less Campaign is an essential part of the foundation’s ongoing efforts to educate and change the behaviour of children, youth and adults around the world to reduce the negative impacts of litter.

Sustainability has been a central element throughout the 2020 edition of the Travel Retail Awards. In addition to the environmental charity fundraiser, stakeholders from across the globe and all sectors of the industry have competed in the first consumer-voted environmental initiative at an airport. The very first winner of the ‘Best Green Initiative at an Airport’ award will be announced during the awards ceremony.
